Topic Dog Boards / Health / management of crystals in urine for disabled dog
- By Boody Date 08.04.15 11:04 UTC
My boy kiks is 7 now and is paralyzed in rear, he is unable to pee and I manually express and have done for 2 years. He has crystals in his urine and unfortunately the diet he was prescribed made him poo none stop and he kept getting covered in it as he drags himself through so that is a no go as it is important for me for him to have a good quality of life and that made him miserable. Does anyone have any ideas for a natural supplement? He is raw fed which did help for a while with the increased water consumption but now they are back.any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dalmatians have this issue, I believe they have to be on Low purine diets.  Worth asking on a Dally forum/facebook group?

I think it depends on whether they're struvite or oxalate crystals as to whether you can change anything through diet.

Have you looked at this website ? http://www.dogaware.com/articles/wdjcalciumoxalates.html

Nutriment do a low purine raw food just as Brainless mentioned for Dalmatians in particular.
