I have recently decided to breed japanese Akita puppies. Myself and my friend want to share an affix together. How do we go about getting our affix and who do we register it with and when do we need to register it? Any Info would be great, Thanx Charlie

Hi Guest
You would need to get an affix application form from the kennel club, it takes about 3 + months before its granted cos it has to be posted in the magazine in case anyone has a problem with your choice..think you have to put down six or seven different choices in prefferential order..but you might not get first pick if someone has something very similar.
Tracey
actually you might be able to download the form from the kc site :)

How much does an affix cost to gain then how much per year to keep it?

it used to be about £40 but I thinks it more than that now and £15 a year to keep..cheaper if direct debit
Tracey

I've just looked through the Kennel Gazette.
To apply for a new affix its £70 inclusive of the 12 months maintenance fee.
Affix annual maintenance fee is £20 or paid via direct debit £17.00
this has most certainly gone up since I applied for mine :-(

how did you all chose your affixes then, as there not everyday names are they what do you take into consideration when choosing one? how did you come up with what you've got. Hope you all understand what I mean (i do?)

ive had mine since the 80's, at the time i was showing rotties, so picked [bellicose] , its warlike-hard etc,
doesnt quite fit in with the pei, but had it too long to get rid of it,

its just like a surname for your dogs really i spose ..so that when you register your own breeding or show your own breeding , its added to the front of the dogs kc name...eg Agios Armani...people get to know affixes around the ring and know who the breeder is by the affix..
Alot of money to get one now though by the looks of it. :)

its a name you chose and pay for yearly--every dog you breed will then have that name at the start of there kc name
suppose the affix was dotty! then it would be -dotty lass--dotty lad etc
or if you bought a pup in and wanted to add your affix, it would be, bigboy for dotty
so when your affix is known , over the years, anyone seeing a dog with your affix would know youd bred it, or bought it in, ----any help??

Well, we chose our affix (Thorsoak) because it sounds good before Aussies, and also acknowledges our first Aussie (Thor) - who is the Champion Couch Potato :-) - and also sneaks in the area where we live (Thurrock!)
We were quite surprised when we got it, I can tell you!
Margot
My affix was a combination of my three favourite dogs pet names PIP - PRU - DAISY, resulting in PIPRUDA.

probably short for irish, did you not pick a dog from its pedigree, relatives etc, how did yougo about finding one????
i tend to look to see what type, temperament etc i like best, then buy from those lines

i have to admit im not educated on matters of pedigrees etc...
i simply rang the kc whom sent me a list of all the breeders and went to veiw 2 different litters. i chose the i i liked most! in fact (plz dont have a go!) the only referance to pedigree was that there were more champs in the line i got poppy from.
how would you know about temperament etc? i take it you must go to lots of shows?

yes i do a fair few shows, which is an advantage as you see differing lines , also see temperaments too, it helps when your looking for a new dog,
you did in your favour ask the kenel club, but really theyre not able to asses the dogs, breeders etc, only tell you that the pups areregistered and therefore you know what excactly your buying,
it is hard when your not in the know, trying to find out whats what, but ive shown dogs now around 22 years and only bred my first litter about 6 year back--------and have only had 5 litters in total
are you keeping a puppy then?
By bettyboop
Date 15.02.03 00:35 UTC
yup i am :) not decided which one yet tho....it will prob choose me! all the pups have got homes already 2 so thats one less thing to worry about! i have to say showing doesnt really appeal to me...just my own humble feeling but im from the school that says there all as worthy as the next i h8 the idea that an absolutly beautiful dog doesnt count because its the rong colour etc...and half the time (no offence to any1 reading this!) the winner isnt as nice as the runners up! wenever ive watched crufts i always try to pick theone that will win and neva got it rite!
its the same with horse shows! leaves me very confused i have to say....mind you my lad falling off mid rising trot didnt help!

no offence taken------when dogs are judged they have to be judged against their breed standard, the blueprint of the breed, so although sitting watching you may think the one with floppy ears and a curly coat is by far the prettiest-----they maybe supposed to have tiny erect ears, short harsh coats etc, see what i mean, and just because theyre shown doesnt make them any less thought of-----[just more correct
