My pups are 2 weeks tomorrow.
They have a heat mat and of course Mum is still feeding but she only goes into feed them. The heating has been on for 2 weeks and their box is by the radiator but
it all seems a bit hot now. When do you start reducing the heating. My last few litters have been earlier in the year when everything was much colder.

I would say not before 3 weeks of age.

Same as Goldmali.....keep them very warm for first 3 weeks and mine always have heat they can get to until 5 weeks even when out of the box this time of year.

I usually move them out of their room when they are about 3-4 weeks.

If you have a heat mat you could probably turn your central heating off or down during the day but always keep the heat mat on.....this might make your bitch more comfortable.

I have no heating as such in my puppy room but use a heatlamp,the room is cooler for the bitch but very warm under lamp for pups.

Watch pups and if they climb into a tight ball on top of each other turn the heat back on.....I like to see mine at 2 weeks flopped out asleep separately and I know then they are warm enough

With my breed (double coated Nordic breed) I go with what the pups are telling me, mine definitely by two weeks are moving away from the heat mat and I don't keep it as warm as often suggested usually only about 22'C in the whelping box.  So at two - three weeks I may switch the heat mat off in the day.

I do not have an open box but make a den with puppy panel and a blanket covering all but the entrance, so keeps in heat and humidity.

I have had to bring 10 day old pups down from the bedroom as they were too hot on an evening (west facing) in September.  I have had more issues trying to keep pups cool.

I still keep an oil filled radiator by the whelping box with thermostat to keep the temperature stable at night.

Thank you. They do not tend to huddle together preferring to spread out. I suppose that is why I wondered whether they were warm or too warm. It has cooled off here now. I will keep it on to-night as it has been constant from when they were born but may try turning it off for a short while tomorrow but of course keep the heat mat on. Of course there would have been a time when more people did not have CH than did so it would not have been so easy but as they have had it up to now, don't want to shock them!
