The regulations say "Any other substance (other than water) which may be used in the preparation of a dog for exhibition must not be allowed to remain in the coat or on any part of the dog at the time of exhibition."

So if your planning to spray and leave it on while the dog is in the ring it would be against the reg, I know some breeds it seems many people pay attention to any of the the regulations for the preparation of dogs related to grooming, a scented one would be a sign that the dog has a substance other than water in its coat.

There was a temporary suspension of the rule a few years ago, but that was temporary whilst the rule was being discussed.

The rule wasn't suspended but the TESTING for foreign substances.

You're right of course Brainless, that was exactly it, and it was in 2011 so already quite a while ago.

Ment to say many people don't pay attention to it. I See so many people in the long coated breeds grooming at shows and using sprays, chalks, oils and creams in the dogs coats with out any attempt to hide their using that stuff and no one says anything. You would think they would have people keeping an eye out for it but I guess in breeds where it's common the show doesn't want to lose the breeds entry over it.

My girl may get a bath a week before a show if she needs it but mostly just a swim in the river lol, a quick brush threw that morning and were ready to go.
