Hi Dollface
Did you remember to ask your vet?

Kylie is having second jab on friday so after the seven day period she will be booked in for her eye doing. But I still haven't made my mind up I will be speaking with specialist on friday who is doing the op so will be able to discuss in more detail. I want to go armed with as much info as posible.

I had to cancel my vet appt because she was ill and she is the only one I go see. Very Sorry :(
I'll call today again after work and see if she is in yet and I will ask her personally if she is in. Since my dogs were only going in for their yearly shots I decided to wait till she's back.
Sorry again

ttfn :(

It's ok Dollface

I got mixed up I am seeing surgeon tonight at 4.45pm and her second vacc is next friday the 21st, so the op will be carried some time the first week of march. I am going to discuss the different techniques with surgeon tonight and let you know what is decided?

Been to see surgeon and decided to tack the gland back into place using the orbital rim technique. Kylie is going in on the 27th of February for this doing. Her health has picked up considerably and this will be seven days after her second vacc, and we are continuing the eye drops until the op.
I'm really dreading the op as i've never had a dog have an op before hope everything goes smoothly(fingers crossed everyone)

Hi Alison,
Re the op - you'll be terrified, I always am, no matter how many times I tell myself that 99.999% of ops go well! Just think of the worry as a sign of how much you care :) I'm sure she'll be fine, and will be a lot more comfortable afterwards.

Good luck.

It was the orbital rim. :)

Good luck and hope everything goes fine. I never allowed any running, rough playing at all for about 3 to 4 months I never wanted to put any strain on T-Bone's eye's and this also gave it time for the scar tissue to heal. It may sound like alot of time to keep her calm but if it works then it was worth it. If they are going to pop up usually happens in the first week or 2, but if they don't still keep her calm for about 3 months time just until the stitches disolve. My thinking is if they are running and getting rowdy I'm sure it puts some strain on their eye's. Call me pariniod :) thats o.k :)

Please do let us know how everything goes. T-Bones eye's were sore for the first day after we got her home.
Wishing u and the little one the best, praying that it all works. :) :) :)

ttfn :)

I have taken advice on board thanks ever so much. I'm quite relieved we are using same technique as i have much more confidence in it working now I know it has worked in the past.
Thanks again. I'm a nervous wreck and it's two weeks away, dreading how i'm going to feel taking her in.

I know kylie's four but i've just read an interesting article about prevention of cherry eye and says not using choker collars until at least four months will reduce the risk of it? will take that into consideration if I ever do buy that longed for pup!

Hi Dollface just spoke to somebody who owned kylie as a pup they were first owners then sold her when got too big:( sounds like she has been passed around :( anyway the gland has been out since she was seven months old:mad: My poor baby is very lucky she is not blind.
Think she knows her new mum is going to love her loads, as I get greeted with two huge paw prints on my front every time she see me:)

Hi i have Bulldogs, Bullmastiffs and Cane-Corsos and cherry eye is just one of those things that crop up in Bulldogs and Cane- Corsos and we just have them cut out, my vet jabs them cuts out and i take them home. if you have them put back they will come out at some point, we have had no problems with there eyes over the years. I put most people in touch with my vet and they have been very happy with the results.

Hi Corso girl
yes it does seem that most people do just have the gland removed but i do want the try the having it replaced back as a first option. I know the gland only produces thirty percent of tears but later in life what happens if the other tear production gland fails dry eye will ineviteably appear this is what I want to prevent obviously if the gland does pop back out then it will be removed. But with the technique being used there is a small risk of this happening.
Thanks for the info though:)
