EU Dog and Cat Alliance sets out welfare standards for Europe:

“THE EU Dog and Cat Alliance is asking for strict new measures governing the breeding, sale and transportation of dogs.

These are contained in its National Legislation Report, which was commissioned to provide important information on the current legislation in all 28 of the member states.

The Alliance, which is made up of 45 groups from 14 European states – including Dogs Trust, Battersea Dogs’ and Cats’ Home, Blue Cross, Wood Green and British Veterinary Association in England – held its first meeting in Brussels last week to launch and discuss the research which it says provides much-needed evidence as to why EU legislation on the breeding and trade of dogs and cats is needed.

The report has been shared with all 751 Members of the European Parliament, all 28 national governments and the European Commission. We will be meeting MEPs and hosting events at the European Parliament to encourage member states to collectively legislate for more uniform dog and cat welfare.”

The link below is to the organization concerned. All I can see it amounts to is a bunch of charities across EU trying to influence supporting/vulnerable members of the public to give them more funds 'because of the good work they are doing'

If they only did this most of the problems would end:

"Dogs and cats should be sold only from breeders’ premises so new owners can be aware of the conditions in which their new animal has been raised and the experiences they have had, and minimising the risks of health and behavioural problems in the future"

Sadly all sorts of well meaning rules are likely to make life more difficult for the wrong people as always.

the new rules about travel (owner or agent to travel with the dog) end of last year make buying an overseas dog more difficult.

Just in case some members might misunderstand (not meaning you) the (seemingly new/recent) organization involved, it is not any kind of official organization recognized by governments across Europe, it is simply a group of organizations who have got together for the purpose I mentioned in my first post. Any group of members from this forum can start exactly the same type thing if they want.
