How old does a Dobe have to be to dock there tail
- By carolyn Date 12.11.01 20:44 UTC
Most dogs are docked at between 3 and 5 days old.
They can only be docked any older if there is a problem with the tail being damaged.
I am quite sure the KC have recently added new ruling about docking older dogs, you could ask them or im sure some one on here could explain more,I would hate to give you the wrong answer, but docking is done by 5 days old.
Can i ask why you ask?

Pups are docked between 2-5 days old-usually at 3 days old. If you have bought a puppy with a tail you will not be able to get it docked unless it has damaged it and the vet thinks it necessary to remove it. After the initial period above, removing the tail would be a full blown operation under a general, and I can't see a vet doing that just for cosmetic reasons.(Yes, I know it happened to that show gundog! :) ) It is difficult enough to find a vet to dock puppies anyway. if you have a litter and need assistance finding a vet, contact the Council of Docked breeds for advice. To talk to someone with experience of tailed Dobes talk to Christine of Kerioak Dobes on here.
