Hi...I'm going to the vets tomorrow for Saffi's annual booster vaccination. Whilst I'm there I will ask for an advocate perscription. Just wondered whether advocate is sufficient or do I need a wormer as well? I see advocate doesn't cover tapeworms ...she is always sick when I give her drontal plus!

Zuma had mild lungworm cough some years ago and was prescribed Advocate, I queried the tapeworm thing with my vet and she suggested I follow what she did with her own dog................

Advocate every other month (E Anglia so lungworm about but not a major problem) and about every 3rd/4th month give drontal on the in-between month. I would think you could use panacur or one of the others if you don't want to use drontal............alternative would be to have a fecal worm count done every so often.

Been doing that for the last 5-6 years and all OK so far.

Mine can't have drontal either, strangely she was find on the liquid one her breeder used but the tablets make her sick.
I use advocate one time then the next time I use mibilmax and frontline.
If you would rather stick to the advocate you can get something to use along with it that just does tapeworms but I can't rember what it's called, my vet asked last time I got a pack if I wanted it.

Panacur doesn't do the usual common tapeworm, so it would have to be a tapeworm specific of multiwormer.

Unless I have had a flee issue I only do tapeworm once a year in height of summer, around August

Is your dog a scavenger out on walks?

Thankyou Brainless for your reply. Suejaw... The only thing she scavenges is other dogs balls!

I asked about that, its called 'droncit' and it was about 4 times the cost of drontal  don't know if there are other alternative tape only wormers now.

Same as Barbara here.

The rest of the year I use Panacur, I worm all the dogs if a bitch is due to be mated when she comes in season, and again when all pups leave for their homes, but not likely more than twice a year for adults.

Any puppy I keep past 8 weeks is done at 11 weeks then monthly to 6 m9onths, then three monthly to a year, then as the rest.

You won't get any arguments here!

I'm a big Panacur fan.
