Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of the above drug in the treatment/dispersal of fatty lipomas please?  My vets are curently in discussion with referral centres as it is new to them but would be interested if anyone else has any knowledge.

Thanks

I didn't want you to think you were being ignored - really sorry but have no experience of it at all.

As fatty Lipomas are benign what is the reason the vet wants to treat them?

Unless they are causing an issue (other than cosmetic), e.g. by being in a place that interferes with movement I would not choose to use drugs, as no drug is without side effects

It is precisely because of the size and location of this one lipoma (inside the elbow) which is now interfering with his gait and placing strain on soft tissue elsewhere that it needs to be got rid of.  Sadly, this elderly dog has a very bad record with general anaesthesia, so whilst the drug approach may not be ideal, in his circumstance it is probably the only viable one.

I appreciate the comment re side-effects and that is what is making the decision so difficult.  Do I risk it and hope that it works and improves his quality of life or leave everything as is and probably have to have him PTS at some stage in the foreseeable future - when depending on the continued growth rate of this one lipoma.

Difficult decisions.  Surgery would be most curative.

Has the vet looked at different anaesthetic options?

I had a Jozi, 14 1/2 year old have to have the large carnassial tooth out in July due to an abscess and opted to have  large fatty lump/cyst off her back at the same time, it had been growing over a year or so and I had not wanted to put her under for it.

The incision was 6 inches long, and the fur has still not fully recovered, I'd have probably left it until she went but the risk was that it would just get too big and cause discomfort eventually, so the tooth thing meant I had no choice but to put her under.

She sailed though the anasthetic, but vet did say she was fitter than many 9 year olds and on pick up they had actually thought it was her 11 year old daughter.

I have been reading about Turmeric and fatty lumps
There is a very helpful tumeric users group on FB which may be worth a look?
