I had to rush my 17 month cocker to the vets this morning, she is being kept in the vet suspects lungworm or pnuemonia. He said she is very flat for a dog her age and she may not make it.
She is being put in an oxygen tent, then xrayed and a drip with antibiotics, treat for lungworm as it may take a while to get a sample tested.
I feel terrible as she hasn't been right all week, I have been watching for her first season, from Tuesday she has been off her food, I have had to coax her to eat, she has eaten wet food but wont touch her dry food. I put it down to probably coming in season as she has puffed up, but no blood yet. She has still run wild with our whippet even yesterday but last night just before bed she gave a little cough like a hick. I then thought maybe she is coming down with kennel cough so gave her a spoon of manuka honey and she went to sleep on her bed fine.
When I got up this morning she was breathing really quickly, you could see she was in pain, I gave her some loxicom and called the emergency vet who said to bring her straight in. I would never of gone to bed if I thought she was going to get this poorly overnight.
I am waiting for the vet to call but it may be this evening depending on how busy they are so was hoping for some advise, I am not in a high risk area, I am in the north east only two confirmed cases of lungworm. Any experience of these would be appreciated.
