Hi all

My  4 1/2 yr old working cocker unfortunately had her coat ruined by an apparent experienced cocker groomer.  (She came out looking like a baby lamb)

she had an amazing coat, shiny , silky and gorgeous.  Apparently she had trouble with her and had to muzzle her, which is fine, but I feel it was a rush clip job to get her out of the van and Now it is very dull, very thick and VERY woolly.

Is there any way to rescue her coat?  Can it recover in time with regular visits with a good groomer? I wish I'd had a little more knowledge of coats and gone for having her hand stripped (hindsight is a wonderful thing).

I am sad I have ruined her coat.

I hope you didn't pay her. Can you find anyone local who either breeds or has cockers and ask there advice.

It can recover in time but even with an experienced hand stripper you are looking at 12-18 months work. The coat needs to fully shed and replenish without being clipped again to get a good result.

I had a Show cocker whose tail had to be amputated after a nasty bite would not heal. The area had to be shaved for surgery and it was 18 months until I was happy her back and front end matched lol x

If you have patience you will get it back.

Aargh, and even though I do clip show type cockers (when asked to!!) there is usually no reason to clip a working cocker type coat!! As said already it can recover from just the one clip, but it will take at least a year. Good luck!
