Hi
I've got a very unwell girl, she's 10 yrs old, currently very aneamic. Yesterday she had another blood count done, and we noticed the tips of her teeth are going black, has anyone had experience of this?
Thank you in advance.

Your poor girl. No experience of this GSP girl but please keep us posted how your girl gets on. Have the Vets any idea what is causing her anaemia? I suffer from anaemia myself and can say with some conviction that it makes you feel dreadful. I hope the Vets can get to the bottom of the problem fast.

Have you had her Thyroid checked? Hypothyroid can cause iron deficiency as it alters the stomach acid preventing absorption of iron and other minerals. It can also cause bad gum and tooth health.
I am also anaemic, it really is so draining. Hope your girl feels better soon.

She has a complicated history, six years ago she under went surgery for IBS, but the vet found a partial blockage in her small bowel which was inoperable, over the six years she has had medications to settle her bouts of sickness, sometimes she would go with long periods of no symptoms of being at all unwell and then symptoms would reappear, and we would settle them down again. A month or two before Christmas she had bloat very luckily she came through the surgery , and seemed to recover amazingly, post open went well heart checked with no murmur, but since then she has been back and forth to the vets with symptoms of her original illness along with a heart murmur which was picked up a week before Christmas.last week having seen the vet two weeks prior she took a turn for the worst, becoming aneamic, blood tests have indicated internal bleeding strongly suspected from her original condition, she has been put on steroids which have at the moment sustained her blood count at 20 which is still very low but she had dropped to 18.
Her protein levels are also low, she's lost a great deal of weight, on the vets advice she's currently on Royal canine hypoallergenic three meals a day.

Thank you admin for asking, she seems to be holding her own, she is still on her meds, but her colour is alot better than it had been, she also had the energy to put up a fight the last time a recheck on her cell count was due to be taken, so we decided to leave it and not over stress her.
She has also been putting on a little weight which is great, she does occasionally have bouts of sickness , but she's out weighing her bad days with good days now which is a huge relief , as I really thought I might have to let her go.
