Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / how to stop this behaviour?

Hi all,

We have two 4 year old dogs, a black Labrador and a Chihuahua. The Chi is the boss of the 2 and has puppies atm. Both are pretty well trained, but we have an issue with barking at strange noises/if someone comes to the door. It isn't always the same one that starts it, but often (not always) when one starts the other joins in and then it's harder to quiet them down. I've tried a firm "no" to no effect and I realise shouting won't help, but I'm getting really frustrated by it. Atm, I'm trying to use distraction and the voice I use for something exciting.  This has had some success, but isn't consistant. I really want to solve this, especially now, as I don't want the puppies to learn this behaviour.

I'm hoping that you guys have some good advice/tips that you can pass on. Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply :)

Regards,

Nik
