Hi there,
I have an 18 month old neutered staffy.
I work 4 days a week. He goes out for a walk in the morning for 20 mins and then is let out in the afternoon in the back garden by my lodger (he is left on his own for 4 hours a day during these 4 days). When I come home from work he gets an hour long walk - so for the 4 days I work he is exercised for 1hour and 20mins. For the 3 days I dont work he gets a minimum of 2hrs walk a day and is very rarely on his own.
He seems quite happy with this , but I have read that staffys need enormous amounts of exercise? What do you think? or am I just being stupid?

Hi Maria
If your staff seems happy with the amount of excersise you are giving him then thats okay. If he is very hyper around the house then he probrably needs more. Staffs are great at excersising themselves, this can lead to the house being wrecked though.
My two ISBTs get a 5 mile walk every day with half of that being free running up the hills or on the beach. The ISBT is a bit taller and more energetic than the staff, so your dog is probably getting enough. It also depends on how fit and active you want your dog to be. Its like body builders and athletes etc. If you make them really fit then you must continue to keep up the excersise. dont give any more excersise than you wish to continue with. ie...Dont walk the dog for 5 miles a day for a couple of months, then change it to 1 mile twice a day.
I hope this helps a bit.
Regards Mick
