I think point three is very good advice.

The one thing I do in my job ( manage large business and IT projects ) is constantly ask for feedback from many different types of stakeholders , whether the feedback is good or bad. It is always nice to get good feedback but in the long term , the bad feedback will often be the most valuble advice you will get. You just have to learn to not take the bad feedback personally.

The same principles should apply to breeding as it is very subjective and can be influenced by personal preferences even if there are standards to follow.
