Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Bitch ready for mating?

Hi, this is my first time breeding and having done all the health tests and spent ages waiting and watching, my medium sized gundog breed is now in season again.  I think we are about day 11/12 from first blood, the blood has changed colour to pink rather than bright red (last 2 days), her vulva is still quite swollen but is very soft to touch, the knot bit is very soft.  She moves her tail to the side easily when standing (last 2-3 days).  I wasn't planning on testing for ovulation as I was planning to just watch for the signs (as she gets a bit stressed going to the vets).  What do others think? Stug dog owner is happy to see her today or we could go tomorrow?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Personally I would go today and then again on Sunday. Always best to get two matings in with a clear day in between. It does sound like the timing is right but really only an experienced stud dog can tell for sure.

You have nothing to lose by going.  Other than a wasted journey.  My boy always gets it right and won't waste his energy if the bitch isn't ripe.  If the stud dog owner trusts his instincts - go for it.
