Dora is a JR owned by a friend of mine, she is unspayed and aged about 5. don't have anymore details other than what it says below.
Anyone with any ideas???

Dora currently in hospital, baffling medical science. Started to go peculiar on Wednesday; periods of normality alternating with lethargy, sometimes off her food, sometimes yelping in pain if she moved, then normal bouncy self next minute. Went for long walk Friday, then refused supper, and worse, sat next to me ignoring my lamb steak. Began shivering and panting, so took her to vet. He thought she had an un-reacting pupil, so rang AHT neurology. Took her in Sat.am; pupil okay, but peculiar "Plaiting" gait behind. Nothing seen on MRI. Lumbar puncture okay but no pathology results till Monday. Kept her in on a drip. She managed chicken yesterday evening and seems more comfortable today, but they are now querying something abdominal and will be doing more tests tomorrow. I can't bear being without her

Just a thought has she recently been vaccinated?

MONDAY phone call from so-far-stumped AHT. Neurological signs back to normal, as are all blood test results but the one for gall stones! She is better in herself. We are waiting for the results from 2 blood tests taken 2 hours apart with a meal in between.

TODAY Oh Dear! Dora came home yesterday afternoon after the only thing they could find was a slightly abnormal liver function test and was Okay for about an hour. She then let out a scream of pain and cowered in the rug room. After going indoors with me she lay listlessly in her basket, got up and strolled across the room, then another scream. After that she was reluctant to move, but took her 3 pills (liver support, steroid and a painkiller) and then ate some chicken for supper. She went out for a wee, then had another pain attack, after which she cringed against me on the sofa, shivering and panting. I rang the AHT, they said give her a painkiller at midnight. She threw up some undigested supper at 4 am, and did it again 7.30am but included the tablets from before supper as well. Fabio (AHT neurologist) said to take her in, and that's where she is. you can prod her all over and she stands there looking stoical, can appear to trot around happily, though slightly oddly, I think, then next minute she screams. She's having another scan and more blood tests tomorrow. Anyone got any ideas?

re vaccination.........pretty sure she hasn't had a booster recently.

Poor Dora. It may be worth contacting an animal McTimoney practitioner and explain to them Dora's problem.  From what you've written it sounds as though one might be able to help.  The work they do is very gentle and I have seen dogs respond very well. Just make sure it is a McTimoney practioner and not just a chiropractor.  Good luck and best wishes to Dora. It sounds horrendous.

I use a Mctimoney chiro, same guy does me and dog on a double appointment............so I know they are good.
The dog belongs to a friend of mine and is back in AHT at present

Update on Dora

A very thin and fairly quiet Dora came home yesterday. At least we now know she has autoimmune meningitis and has 5 different pills to take, some twice a day. I have found that you can push a plastic drinking straw lengthways through a hot dog sausage and remove a core. Bill £4650, (please be kind, Pet Plan!) including copious blood tests, 2 MRI 1 abdominal scan and 2 lumbar punctures! The AHT are absolutely fantastic

I hope the insurance is the 'lifetime' cover, hate to think of next years premium!

I’ve heard Jo, the founder, talk and she has a wealth of knowledge and is very practical and helpful.

I spoke to Doras owner tonight, Dora is home, eating OK and pottering about but gets tired very quickly, she was previously very energetic but its very early days yet.
