Hi,hoping someone can help me with my 6month Westie,we take him out every 2hours or so and tell him 'toilet',he nearly always goes so knows  what the word means, and has also just got the hang of going to the back door and whining to be let out to toilet, but EVERY day he will just at some point go and wee ,usually in the kitchen,he's even wee'd on me twice,he does'nt stop midstream so obviosly we get the full lot,i'm at the end of my tether with him,I don't want to get rid,but i can't put up with this,he's not averse to weeing in his bed either,he hasnt got water infection,he's not yet castrated,i have another Westie, and we lost our other 14year old last year and they were so easy to toilet train ,any ideas please???

He's at the worst possible age; the time when there is a testosterone surge (I believe four times as as much as in adult male dogs) so there's every chance it WILL get better as he grows older. In the meantime, if he was my dog (and I've been through the same with my Papillons), I would use a bellyband. They do make life so much easier.

Thanx for your prompt reply, was taking him out for a walk earlier and he let it all go before we got out the door but i'm putting that down to excitement,i'd never heard of bellybands but having just googled it will certainly go down that road, anythings worth a try,we got him at 11 weeks and he was left in a tiled kitchen, whether that's got anything to do with it,but as i said he's 6months now and does know where to toilet as he runs into his bed to hide after relieving himself on the floor,so keeping all crossed that this will be the answer, thanx again.

Could he be anxious even submissive?

No Lacy,he's definitely neither of these,a true terrier, just seems to cooperate when he thinks fit, king of the castle.

I understand how fruatraing this is having a pomx that is now 6 years and if she is feeling lazy or its cold and wet will wee and poo without you knowing and a flat coat who must of been a full year before she was totally reliable 24/7.it completley confused me as having dogs before who who all house trained day and night really quickly and on command. Just make sure u never show displeasure or tell hum off for accidents but extreme prais and treats for getting it right as it does sound like he is aware when he does something wrong.

Yes it's soooo frustrating furriefriends and very hard also not to show displeasure,i've had to have a good talk with myself and re-train myself to stay positive, the bellybands have given me fresh hope,i'm so sorry that ure little one goes where and when she likes,I hope for better things, but if not i'll just need to cope as I've realised that I can't give him up,but it was close, thanx for ure comments.

It certainly is getting up in the morning and putting your foot in puddle isnt fun nor is finding little madam has sneaked under the bed, as she is the only one who fits there, and  has done a poo certainly gets me cross. I try counting to 10 and these days brooke is fine and little one ? well I think its just her. she doesn't like the cold or the wet and just sometimes I think its to far to walk down stairs lazy little toad so  under the bed is fine. I have now put something waterproof under the bed to save the carpet and the hall and kitchen are laminate. hopefully you will get there and no giving them up wasn't an option. swearing in my head was lol
