Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Crufts Entry Q
- By sqwoofle [gb] Date 21.01.15 00:27 UTC
So I've just woken up in a cold sweat about my crufts entry.

I checked it yesterday before it closed and it's in (I was a bit keen and did it back in October).

But I've just thought: where it's says qualifying show - I've put our breed championship show. But where it says qualifying award - I've just put "2nd".

Will they check to see that it was a 2nd in a qualifying class - it was junior bitch - or am I going to run into problems?

I've worried myself even more now as looking at the paper entry form it's says "award, name of class and name and year of show" next to the qualification section.

It didn't say this on the online entry. Knew I should have stuck with good old paper and pigeon!!

Don't worry about it - they don't even check. I know of dogs who have entered in previous years in my breed who hadn't even qualified!

Did you enter on line,    if so go to View My Completed UK Entries  and it will show you   what you have entered , class and so on.

The online form is quite badly laid out I think. Be easier if it had one box for each item of info they wanted, one for name of show, one for date, one for award, one for class etc. But no they don't check, they just rely on people to inform them if anyone has entered without being qualified.

I entered all mine in the GC classes, and it asks for dates and place of where you got the GC award. Yet there is no extra space for it, so I typed it in the box for normal qualification. For my one entry who has not got a stud book number that ended up being kept and shows on the conformation e-mail alongside the normal qualification, but for the two with stud book numbers, the system clearly ignores and removes anything put into the box for qualification, as with a stud book number you don't need anything else for NORMAL qualification. So they ASK for details of GC but then remove it!

So no, don't worry.

Phew this is all good to hear!

Panic averted - I emailed fosse to check and they just said that it would be fine. I think I'll do it in paper next time, there's more space and a line fore everything!

Ah but the worry with paper entry is you can't be sure it has arrived until it is too late! (I.e. whether your passes etc turn up or not.) That's why I prefer online -you get instant confirmation.

Enjoy Crufts!

You can see on your bank statement that they have cashed the cheque. This is done very quickly!!

Ah but only if you have cheques -to be honest I don't know anyone (certainly nobody in my family) whose bank still supplies them with a cheque book. Hence if I have to do paper entries it has to be with a postal order, which then won't show up.

Most champ shows also allow for writing in bank card details which, again, can be marked off as being paid on statement. I really never thought anyone did actually use postal orders, I am never near a post office so never gave them a second thought. I always request a cheque book for show entry purposes, never use it for anything else.

Mine does. In fact I'd change my bank if they didn't provide them.

Mine does too, I get stuff from a wholesaler who does not take cards  - they're in Walsall so I can't pop in to pay cash

I do the bookings for our village hall and get 8-14 cheques every month paying hire fees.

Doesn't change the fact though that a lot of people don't have cheque books. Back in 2009 when there was talk about cheques being phased out by 2018 the figures given were that just 6 % of all payments in the UK were made by cheque.

I remember way back when entering shows on paper only that sometimes cheques did not get cashed until after the closing date, so again you had no way of knowing if it had arrived or not, until it was too late. Personally I always use the cat show entry way for paper entries -always enclose a stamped address postcard for confirmation of entry. Write my name, dogs' names, name and date of show and classes entered on it. But it's not as foolproof as getting instant information in an email. For instance I have had some show secretaries just post the card back without signing it or stamping it (despite me asking them to please do so) or adding any note, and once also the post office then forgetting to postmark the stamp, so all I had back was a card in the same state that I had sent it, no proof of entry at all.

both my Banks (Nationwide and Santander) still issue cheque books, how else are you to make small payments without being charged?  they wanted to get rid of them but found they couldn't for this reason.

I'm sure if you ask for a cheque book you will be sent one.

Small payments for what? The only thing I can think of would be open show entries, otherwise it's all debit card or cash, so personally I see no need. Haven't used cheques for the past 15 years at least. And I never liked cheques because you never know when the money will be taken and so if a direct debit or something goes out you can run out of money before the cheque is cashed, whereas with a debit card it's instant and so you know the payment has been made.

In any accounting system, when you issue a cheque you deduct the value from your balance so there is no danger of spending the money :) That's how it has always been done going back to the time when there was only cheques :)

I'm treasurer of a local organisation and at least two thirds of our customers pay their annual bill by cheque (the rest by bank transfer). We don't take debit/credit cards nor do many small businesses.

I'm with Barclays and they give check books - great for show entries and the farrier :P

I would say about 80% of my clients use check for EVERYTHING. I'm a farm secretary. If they took cheque away the farming community would certainly struggle.

A lot of my customers pay by cheque too. A mobile card reader costs money and charges a percentage so am not keen on having one. Both my banks give cheque books out on request.

I had my bitch eye tested at Manchester and they only took cash or cheque, they couldn't take card payments and with no cash had to pay by cheque.

Also they would get charged more for card transactions than for cheques, which is why they don't accept them.

To keep track (Balance my chequebook ;) )I now use a cashbook since my bank no longer issues cheque books with' transaction pages'.  I tick off all processed transactions so always know how much is uncleared.  My breed club often takes ages to cash cheques.  I donate to both our breed rescue and breed club health fund using cheques.
