My friend's bitch has reacted to INCURIN so her vet has now put her on PROPALIN but with the warning that this may cause the very nice natured bitch to become aggressive to people and dogs.
I have used Propalin with no ill-effects and think this warning is nonsense but my friend is a worrier and is panicking. Have any of you any experience of unwarranted aggression actually happening as a result of this drug? It is not on the advice sheet as a possible side effect. My vet looked it up in the Formulary and it is not listed in there either.
PS If |I have to login every time I access this forum, I shall stop bothering!

I have been using Propalin since 10th November on my Jozi who is 15 and no problems.

Yes, I have experience of Propalin causing strange behaviour and having side effects on a couple of bitches that I bred, and another sired by a dog I'd bred. 2 bitches' behaviour was affected. One seemed to lose confidence, the second had a similar change in behaviour, so much so that both the owner and the vet thought her sight was deteriorating. This was checked and was normal. The third bitch had issues with her hindquarters, developed weakness. All returned to normal after the drug was stopped. They were related so maybe that was a factor.

My elderly spaniel had been on this for some time and I really cannot say that it has changed her at all, apart form making her dry

I have used it on a couple of bitches with no behavioural effects just the required result of the bitch being dry :)

I had a Goldie bitch on it for six years with no noticeable ill effects. It worked very well for her on the minimum effective dosage.

Thanks for this advice. If I knew how to disable cookies I would do it but I am hopeless with such things!

It's disabling cookies that means you need to login, leave cookies enabled and you will be fine
