Do you know why she is not kc registered ?
If she is not registered in the future and you decide to breed then the pups cannot be registered either ( anyone correct me if i am wrong )

The mother is KC registered but had the litter before she was 2. The owner tells me that it will be very hard to find a Stud

If your bitch is not KC registered then reputable stud dog owners are highly unlikely to let their dog mate with her. The fact mum had the litter before she was 2 does not stop the puppies being registered. A bitch must be over the age of 12 months to have her puppies registered. The 2 year age is probably something more to do with the recommended minimum age that is endorsed by the breed clubs for Sibe's. It's more likely that she has already had one litter in the previous twelve months - which would prevent this litter being registered and/or the father is not registered himself.

f your bitch is not registered you cannot register any pups she may have with the KC. If you are thinking of getting into breeding you need to think very carefully before proceeding with the purchase of this bitch.

You are right - only puppies from KC reg'd parents can be registered with the KC. People have their own views on the value of KC registration. Personally - I wouldn't touch a puppy that wasn't from a reputable breeder and KC reg'd. Its not guaranteed - but it's the best we've got of ensuring the puppy you are buying is what you are being sold and that the parents are healthy and are the parents of your puppy. There are a number of other registration schemes around now - which mainly serve to sway the prospective buyers that they are getting a quality bred dog when that may not be the case. Also a non KC reg'd dog cannot be shown at KC goverened shows.

The breeder has both parents & they were stunning dogs & well kept & loved & we did see all of the papers KC, eye & Hip Test & pedigree , so if we carried on and still went ahead with the dog how much of a discount on a dog that was KC reg should we expect ?

I would be very suspiciuos-shes(or he) got both K.C.reg parents ,both with all relavent health tests and shes told you the pups not registered because the bitch was less than 2?You can register pups from a bitch of this age so i think I would be safe rather than sorry and buy a pup thats registered from elsewhere since you intend to breed.

HI
one problem you will find is that decent no stud dog owner is going to allow you to use their dog on your unregistered bitch. You will therefore have to use an unregistered stud who will not have had any health tests done.I would say I'm save to say your bitches parents had no health checks-so you do not know if she will have any inherited problems.
If you are serious about breeding it would be much wiser to buy a Registered pup from a reputable breeder-sorry if this is not what you want to hear but there are far too many badly bred dogs out there already and as the old saying goes-if a jobs worth doing its worth doing well.It would cost you very little more to raise a litter of well bred puppies than a litter of ???
Good luck Archer

Don't buy the puppy Dee, it is unlikely that the stud and dam will have had the correct eye tests and sibes do have a couple of nasty eye defects, plus the hips should also have been scored. It is also possible that the bitch has restrictions on her and that is why the litter can't be registered, or perhaps even the father is not a Sibe? You are no doubt about to pay a stupid amount of money for a mongrel :-( All dogs have a 'pedigree' it is just a list of ancestors. I would also wonder how much info the breeder (I use that term very loosley) has given on the breed, they are not easy to own.

Ooops missed a reply while I was typing. So now I must ask...why is the pup not being registered?

I would like to thank you for all your help and advise. I will speak to the breeder later on tonight.

The puppy will be a member of the family (I know what I am letting myself into - I have done my homework over the last year and a half) I am not 100% if I want to breed her - it was a question I put to the breeder today and she said no !!

I have been to a couple of breeders of the sib's - I was not happy - they were back-yard breeders, wanted a big deposit when the pups were only a week old, I didn't see the father...But this one both parents were there, and all documentation, they seemed nice and were very selective to whom the pups would go to.

I know it is very hard to find a litter of sib's - if anybody knows of a litter coming up please let me know.....

Deanna, if the breeder doesnt want your pup being bred from, I strongly suggest you go somewhere else, look for a K.C registered pup and talk about the issue of breeding before booking a pup. If you take this puppy then, against the breeder's wishes, breed from her in the future you are only letting yourself in for a whole heap of trouble as this breeder may well blacken your name in the Sibe circles.
I will say, that most caring breeders would be unhappy and reluctant to sell anyone a puppy who was thinking about breeding that pup before they even knew what that pup had turned out like! I am not having a go, just saying that maybe you should adopt a slightly different attitude, eg that the pup would be your friend and companion first, with the possibility of breeding only if she turned out sound in health and temparament after you had carried out all the necessary health tests. A responsible attitude like that would go down far better among the good breeders and you might have more luck then finding the right breeder and the right pup.
I wish you luck and hope you get what you want.

Have you told the breeder about wanting to breed from your pup? I don't know if he/she intends the pup to be kept only as a pet? If you are serious about breeding you probably should get a pup with K.C papers, make it a lot easier for you in the long term, you should not be worrying about how much you have to pay if you want a breeding bitch or dog. A pup without K.C registration would be between £50 and £100 less than a registered pup, would that difference in price really be worth the hassle you would have?
