Has anyone got the recipe for liver treats. Is there two different kinds, eg livercake or just dried liver pieces and what is the best to use.

This is what I use:

Liver Cake

1.5 lb Liver (any)  = 680g
8 Tbsp milk
6 Heaped Tbsp plain flour
2 eggs

Put all of the above ingredients in a food processor (in my case, a large liquidiser) & mix until smooth (cutting up the liver makes it easier).pour into greased & floured swiss roll tin or anything similar & cook on Mark 6 or electric equivalent for 15 mins.

Make sure and cut up the liver small as I broke my blender trying to get it to smush up pieces that were too big, it's also a pain to clean afterwards but the dogs love it. Now I just slow roast until it is quite dry and it works as well but there again my boys are gannets for treats.

I prefer baked liver so it's brick hard, although I slice mine wafer thin, so it's more like liver crisps.
I like it because it lasts longer in your pocket, I am the worlds worst for forgetting what's in my pocket, I'd quite often find a mouldy mush in the bottom of a coat pocket from forgotten liver cake.

Last time I made liver cake,  once it was cooked as per recipe,  I cut it into tiny pieces,  then spreadthem on two trays and pt them back in a cool oven (60C)  until they were crispy.

Packed into tins,  they lasted for ages,  and of course being dry,  they didn't go mouldy in my pocket :-)    I also forget what I'm carrying in my pockets ;-)

I use a food processor not a blender, cuts up the liver really easily, ive broken blenders before with liver!

I too find awful mouldy doggy treats in my pockets,  livercake,  sausage etc.   If I leave my dog walking coat on a chair the dogs are soon to be found with noses in my pockets!  I have been making  livercake in my food processor but my recipe includes garlic.  The dogs love it but I can't face the garlicky smell anymore,  it turns my stomach.  So maybe I will try the alternatives mentioned here!  At the moment I am just using Schmackos broken up into tiny pieces - but they are expensive!

I just bake lambs liver in the oven (I prefer lambs liver to any other kind) and sprinkle a little garlic salt on top.   Mine sit around the oven until it's done!!   If I leave ANYTHING in my pockets and 'they' get to it, disaster - I've had them chew through the pocket (or worse) to get to what's been left in there!!

>but my recipe includes garlic

Then don't add it, it is not a vital ingredient to the recipe just an extra smell enhancer

Done baked liver quite often, I have had pieces fall out of pockets when I get stuff out of the washing machine and give them a shake - still in one solid lump :-) . I don't intentionally give those bits to dog but they have been snatched and eaten with apparent relish
Only snag is baked liver is VERY crunchy and noisy, especially if you feed a bit in a quiet training class!!!
