"It's often said that the age of dogs can be better understood by multiplying their age, in human years, by seven. But is that really true?"

Piglet has 6 months to go before he's 100. :)
- By Goldmali Date 06.01.15 13:02 UTC
Alas no Papillon or Malinois in the list to choose from.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 06.01.15 13:02 UTC
The nearest breed size and longevity for my breed would be a Border collie and it's not on the list :(
- By Brainless [gb] Date 06.01.15 13:04 UTC
Yet, if you use the first link what is the picture a Border Collie and a Papilon!!!
- By Goldmali Date 06.01.15 13:24 UTC
LOL yes Brainless! And take into consideration that the world's oldest dog was at one point a Papillon (from the UK, and a show dog) aged 29, you'd have thought it should be in the list.

My 19 month old Golden is 17 years. I had just begun to detect she was leaving her Kevin years behind.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 06.01.15 15:42 UTC
Hmph, no Cavalier either! I put them down as cockers instead. :-p
- By Goldmali Date 06.01.15 15:54 UTC
There were King Charles Lucy, use that and your results will show a lovely CAVALIER pictured LOL.

My 4yr old SBT is 40 and my 2yr old SBT is 26

If I pretended my Elkhound (20kg adult) at 15 is a Labrador she would be 95 but if a cocker 97??

My breeds average lifespan based on 2004 health survey is 13 years 5 months.

Nothing like either of my two dogs to choose from - I went for Golden Retriever purely on size, but was told the life expectancy of that breed is about 12.something years, so totally useless as both mine go on a lot longer, and in the case of my cross-breed, his dam's breed can live up to 16.

The only other choice for a similar sized/related breed was GSD - and apparently their life expectancy is about 9!!

It says my 8 year 3 month old boxer has a life expectancy of 8.8 years 😱. I kind of wish I hadn't seen that part; yes I know it's only a calculator but still.

I wont tell my 16.75 or 12.5 year oldswhat the life expectancy of a Whippet is. I will be waiting for a card from the Queen for the eldest one, the end of Feb!..lol

Oh yes so there is - and that's a lovely Cavalier! :-p Same result as for the cocker as it happens.

Georgepig...my last three boxers ( all home bred) have died at 14.5 years, 15 and 14. Sibling sisters making 15 and one at 16.
- By furriefriends Date 07.01.15 14:48 UTC
sad to see my gsd only 9.7 years and he is 7 well will see about that !
the others didn't really have my breeds
- By georgepig [gb] Date 07.01.15 17:36 UTC
I hope he has a bit longer left in him! He's fit as a fiddle (gets a bit stiff after jumping about a lot but that's it!).
I thought the breed average was higher than that anyway. Plus his relatives all seem fairly long lived too.

It's a shame there aren't more breeds - mine is on there she is currently 10 months so that makes her 12 years old. It says the breed life expectancy is 13.5. My last dog died at this age but due to ill health. I know people who have Shih tzus that have lived till 15- 17 yrs

Good fun though!

Daisy ( SBT) is 69, I hope I'm as fit at 69, she still runs around like a loon !.

I wonder where they got their average life expectancy figures from???

I have seen some websites state my breed averages 10 - 12.  I have lost one at 11 and felt robbed.

The 13+ seems to be more realistic and the figure they came up with when they did the KC survey.

My own at the Bridge were 13y 7m, 11y, 13y 10m, and the first ones mother was 14 and her mother and grandmother both made 15, my current oldest is 15.

As our breed isn't listed looked elsewhere & got results that at 11 years he ranges from 68-72 years, which for a life expectancy of 10-12 years seems quite young & very unlikely that a BH ever gets to celebrate the big 100. Naively thought that knowing breeds have different life spans & age at varying speeds that they might all have a similar life expectancy in human years?
- By Tish [gb] Date 08.01.15 15:22 UTC
Maybe they have gone for an average or minimum life expectancy.
