A mastiff or a bull mastiff? Your title says one breed and your post another! And what age?

Size of dog doesn't really have to be your yardstick.  All dogs, whatever breed, are supposed to have 5 minutes exercise per month of dogs age.

So a 3 month old pup would need walking 15 minutes a day.  That is 7 1/2 minutes there, and 7 1/2 minutes back.  The larger breeds can be over exercised with lasting damage to bone growth.  Bear in mind that a puppy would be playing a lot and racing round the garden at home, so will soon need a long sleep.  :-)

I'm sure that breeders of larger dogs will soon be along to give you excellent advice.

That's only while they're growing, of course; and it's per walk, not per day. Growing pups need to go off-property two or three times a day for socialisation and habituation purposes, and for the larger breeds this means walking, because they're too heavy to carry!

There's an adult bullmastiff near me and I always see her running round the park, often after  a ball and they can be out for AGES so in her case 30 minutes would no way be long enough.

thanks i thought 30 mins a day seemed to be a bit low, i have always had gsd's and was looking for another breed that would fit in with 2 young grandchildren (who are on the robust size and clumsy) and from what i have seen the bull mastiff looked like a good choice, we dont mind being out in the weather but as im getting on a bit dodgy knees lol, i want a dog that does not need hours of exercise, and as i do a lot of walking, taking the children to school takes me about 30 mins each way i was concerned that would be too much for the dog but if the dog can cope with more than 30 mins i think that i will look into getting a bully. thanks everyone for your input and help
