Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Doggy boots!

For once I'm not going with a friend or hapless hubby to Crufts next year, so I can't get a drop off pass as I wouldn't be confident any of my friends who are going would be able to be outside at the right moment to take delivery of dog and crate. As I'm only taking 1 dog I thought it would be easier just to park and walk in. However she doesn't much like being wheeled in my trolley, which is rather noisy, so I was thinking of getting some boots just in case it's damp or grubby underfoot for the walk, as she does have white fluffy feet! I was hoping for recommendations and size guides for boots for a Cavalier. :-)

Surely you could carry her?  Use a back pack so hands are free.  If you use the shuttle bus etc there will not be far to walk/carry at all.

Hah - you should try getting in there with BASSETS!!  On a wet day it's a nightmare.   Thankfully, and we did have 3 entered at one point, we usually managed to have a dry day, but on one, we weren't showing but doing DD, and it was shocking wet.  The trouble was we didn't have time to get them cleaned up before the hoards decended.  It wasn't easy to get them cleaned up, and do a good PR job with the public believe me.

No question about carrying a Basset in - but I'd imagine you could?

Couldn't you get something like this

Try Paws disposable boots . http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pawz-LLC-1048-Waterproof-Boot/dp/B001J1Y9VA
Although they are disposable, I've found them to last quite a long time unless they get cut on something.

I can also recommend the Pawz boots-the only ones that stay on my OES's feet properly and sometimes just covering their actual feet is all you need...but they also wear a waterproof suit too if it is puddly/raining.  I'm told the k9 clean coats are good if it's wet, but obviously you would still need to wear boots.

She's quite a sturdy Cavalier and there's no way I could carry a nearly 10 kg dog all that way as well as pulling the trolley with all the gear on! I'll have a look at those links, thanks people!

Thanks Schnauday but it's the white fluffy feet I am trying to protect, she won't get her body dirty just walking along! :-)

Thanks Celli that looks like quite a good plan, might go for those!

Epic measuring failure, I must have been including the fluffy feet, I refuse to believe she needs Dobermann size boots. I've ordered the ones for Border terrier size dogs and will hopefully be allowed to exchange if they're the wrong size!

The size I got fit over her feet pretty well but the actual opening to stuff the foot in is very tight. I guess it'll be ok just wearing them for 10 minutes to walk in from the car park, but I might get the next size up as well to compare. They might fit the American cocker on his hill walks!

I have to admit I find them a two man job as the top is tight but that's what keeps them on and they don't seem to be too tight for the dogs-one person to stretch them wide and then another to push the foot in to the bottom. We have the green ones for OES.

I use these (Pawz) for one of mine.  The top is very narrow, but I find that a small - about half a cm - snip in the top makes them easier to put on, and more comfortable for the dog.  I don't find that it 'runs', the boots stay on, and mostly last for 14 reasonable length walks.

I did try the next size up once, but the opening was much the same size and I ended up snipping it anyway.

You might find you need to check that the toes lie straight once the boot is on, it's easy to get one of the outer ones misaligned when putting them on, but a quick stroke down the foot with the boot on sets it right.

My dog is an SBT and it's the red ones that fit her, that size might fit a Cav.

Yes it's the red ones I got as they said Border terrier size. The bag part is fine but the opening is very tight. I wouldn't want her wearing it all day, but it'll be fine to walk into the NEC. And I'll try the little snip on the side thanks Merrypaws! I managed to put them on by myself with her sitting on the grooming table. But I'd have to put them on before we leave the hotel, I don't think I could hold her still to put them on when I park the car, it'll be much too exciting then! :-D

The next size up is pretty big, they don't even stay on Daisy.
There is a knack to putting them on, I have Daisy standing between my feet, both thumbs in the boot to stretch it open and pop it on.
It does help that Daisy knows the routine and even lifts her paw up to have the boot put on.
