Can anyone recommend a good hoover that is going to last more than mine have.
In the past two years i have had 3 dysons ( two upright and one cylinder ) including the animal hair one and a henry hoover.
I have two newfs and as you can imagine the hair situation is not a good one.

Hi,

When I bought my last hoover, I borrowed a Dyson and a Miele Cat'n'Dog from friends and tested them at home - the Miele was far more efficient, both at hair and general debris, picking up plenty of stuff that the Dyson had left.

I have Rough Collies, so also have the longer hair that the Newfs have - different requirement to short coats like Dobes/Danes!

Just my experience, sure others will have plenty to add.

I have an Aqua vac.Good solid little hoover picks up everything.I did however buy an animal hair attachment from my local hoover retailer as it didn't have one with it.

hello - hoovering.....................whats that ?. is it a bit like dusting ?!!!!!!!!.
anyway, i also use a miele and find it really good. i was going to buy a cat'n'dog but at the time it worked out much cheaper to buy a miele S512 and a separate turbo brush (which i think comes with the cat'n'dog). only one problem - its bright yellow !. it was over a year ago though so the offer might have changed.

Only said I'd bought it, didn't say I use it regularly ... :D

We've got a spare hoover for DIY type stuff .... David went to use it the other day and someone has cut through the wire and taken the plug - and of the 3 of us in the house, we all deny it - now that was a strange burglar ....

hi peanuts

I've had a Dyson DC01 since they first came out with no problems at all (fills up with animal hair every couple of days or so) and its still going strong!
How on earth have you managed to trash four in two years? Do you have a wild hoovering action?

I used to have a Philips cylinder machine, which was great, but as the years have gone by the bags became almost impossible to obtain. At 19 years old it is still working, though.

But I treated myself and got a Dyson (after letting my Mother test-drive one for 4 years!) and I must admit to being mortified at the amount of dirt and hair it got up! It's great for picking up short dalmatian hair - except from the car :( Even the new "animal" tool won't shift it. It may be better with longer hair though.

I have recently bought the Dyson Animal, after test driving a friends. It picks up absolutely everything and embarrassed me the first time I used it as I had to empty it after only doing the hall carpet! It is wonderful with Malamute fur :D

After going through 3 vaccs in about as many months, got a dyson absolute..thought it was the bee knees..had a go with a kirby..the dyson failed miserably...so kirby G5 now does the hoovering and it's brill..cost a bit but had it for about 5 years now and still as good as new..wouldn't change it for the world.
Tracey :) But mum and dad have a miele and thats brill too.

I agree Tracey ..we have had our G4 for about 8 years or so now ..prior to that I was getting through hoovers every two years or so :) Cost an arm and a leg (you can see me hopping if you like) but has outlasted ALL the previous vacs ..having said that , Dyson weren't around at the time ...but I have heard varying reports about Dyson

I have a Dyson and a Kirby...the good old Kirby wins hands down for me :)
(though I'm itching to try a Miele)

Hi Melody
Think with the kirby you have to test it against what ever you have..we had had a Dyson absolute for about 2 months when we had the kirby demo ( just to get the carpet cleaned really ) I used alot of shake and vac where I used to live before i gave up on carpets :) anyway when the kirby sucked up about two containers full that had been left in the carpet by the Dyson, that was enough for me..
and during the time I'd had the dyson it was continually getting blocked..losing it's suction, the hose broke, cos of the shake and vac the filters kept getting blocked, now I just switch on and go..it's got a power drive on it too so it just glides along. :) I wouldn't swap it for any other make.
