Topic Dog Boards / Health / Grade 5 heart murmur with "thrill"

My foster puppy is 7 weeks and is a hand rear. She has a brother who has been rehomed.
This pup is reported to be full Labrador ..but is most likely a cross.

She has had regular vet visits since I've had her at about 4 days old. The vet thought she heard a murmur at 2 weeks of age. Puppy became ill at 4 weeks of age and same vet thought the murmur was louder than before but still unconcerned. Pup was seen at 6 week for check up and Kennel Cough Vaccine ....different vet ( dog charity's vet)scored the murmur as a 3/6 and not concerned.
Yesterday pup was seen by yet another vet ( dog charity's vet)for quick check up before 1st vacc  this vet says murmur was a 4/6 and likely to need medications early in life and could be life limiting.
Took pup to my own vet for second opinion and she agreed however said it was a bit worse than a 4 as the murmur also had a palpable thrill in the chest. Told to come in for monthly check-ups as pup,is still quite young.
Pup quiet compared to brother and needs frequent rests. Vet hopes as she grows the murmur will reduce somewhat but isn't hopeful and is a bit concerned about long term prospects. I will probably keep the pup if that is the case as her home ability is now greatly reduced.

I am not asking for any medical advice....but personal experiences if there are any in caring for such a pup. I have 5 other dogs and two play with her and are very good..the others will let her climb on them etc but don't play.
At this time I do limit her playtime if overdoes it...but for the most part she stops after about 10-15 minutes..

Her brother is fine and very active in comparison ...
Many thanks

My only experience has been with dogs around 6 years of age.  No pups I'm afraid.  However, I lost one girl within 3 months of diagnosis and it was heart breaking.

Gemma has been on medication for well over 3 years now and is a happy smiley girl.  She does tire easily, and I know she doesn't tolerate long walks.  So I let her tell me she has had enough.  If that happens to be 100yds then so be it.

She is a breed that should easily make 15 years and she was 9 in August.  She loves me to get on the floor and act daft with her, and gets surprisingly animated.  We just have fun.  I will enjoy her while I can.

You enjoy your puppy Freewayz and just make the most of your time with her.  I am sending positive vibes.
