I know this sounds silly but I joined this site and have posted a few messages but now I cant seem to work out how to start a new topic. I thought there was a button that said new topic on the site but its not there anymore.
Tell me I am not going mad but how do I post a message on the site.

If you have joined, you need to login and then you will be able to post :-)

To join the forum you need to Register

Once registered, you can post on the forum.

Make sure you use a valid email address, as your password will be sent automatically to the email address that you provide. Please note that the login system is case sensitive and you must type in your password exactly as it is sent to you. If you wish to change the password that is provided, to something easier to remember you can do so by using the 'options' link at the top of the forum page. You can do this once you are registered.

I have joined and I am able to log in and reply to other posts but how do I start a new post.

At the top of each separate board is the little "clicky-bit" (sorry, having a senior moment!:)) for New Topic.

Go to the forum that you wish to post a topic in and click on the 'post topic' link. If you are unsure which forum is most suitable, post and Admin can move it later if it is needed.
