I am going to arrive at Euston Station and am going to Les Mis at the Queens theatre.
It is only for one night and I am looking for a cheap Holiday Inn style hotel. Whenever I go on to look I just get so confused and give up !!!
Can anyone with London knowledge tell me which hotels to look at !!!

There's a holiday inn literally 5 minutes walk from Euston, but I suspect it's not cheap. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a reasonable cheap hotel in central London. But that Holiday Inn would certainly be convenient.

Have you tried a Premier Inn ? If you book in advance you can get 'cheaper' rooms :) (Although London isn't exactly cheap :)

We tend to stay further out at Brentford,  as we drive to London.

Premier Inn are much nicer than Travelodge,  the beds are much better too.    And of course Premier Inn have food available,  which Travelodge rarely do.

BeagleBaggie - can you tell me the name of the Holiday Inn?
I realise nothing is cheap in London, I meant the Holiday Inn style places rather than those like the Savoy !!

Groupon often do very good deals for London.

The London Underground is very easy to get around on so you may well find it worthwhile to stay further out of the centre near a tube station.

Sorry I was slightly mistaken. I was thinking of the Premier Inn on Dukes Rd, a stones' throw from euston.

The nearest holiday inn is Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, which is 1.3 miles away and not on the way to the queens theatre.

I think a Premier Inn may be similar to a Holiday Inn, though cheaper I think.

(There is also a budget Travelodge right next to euston in Grafton Place).

It just depends on the OP's expectations of a hotel room :) :) Everyone has their own idea :) We like Premier Inns for shortish stays (used them for weddings, funerals, daughter visits when she couldn't put us up etc ). They are clean, comfortable but not what I call 'budget' - Travel Lodge are budget IMO and I try to avoid staying in them as I've had a few that have been rather scruffy :) But for one night if it's just somewhere to sleep, they are fine. We could afford dearer hotels but I really don't see the point of spending more and try to avoid staying in any hotel on holiday  :) :) :)

I stayed in the travel lodge near euston before catching the euro star. It was actually quite a nice travelodge! Would recommend it if your just looking for something value and simple. :)

What type of room do you want, what day of the week are you going and how much notice are you able to give?

The answers to these questions will determine the sort of price you'll be expected to pay.  Don't choose a hotel for a restaurant: most hotel food is overpriced and can be beaten by almost anywhere else!  I'd always aim to stay in a hotel where I wish to wake up in the morning.  I find that's more important that being near to my evening destination.  However, Covent Garden is ideal as it's pretty close to the theatres and a great place the following morning for a leisurely breakfast or brunch.  It's good for shopping and just mooching around too.  Travel in London is so easy that staying too near to Theatres or Train Stations is unnecessary and can also be very noisy, even by city standards.

I've stayed at the Travelodge in Covent Garden a few times - the rooms are good and clean but as a cheaper hotel there is a lot of turnaround all night and unless you are at the end of a corridor or on the top floor the banging doors can be a nuisance for a light sleeper.  You can ask for a room with less passing traffic though...

I've tried a few of the hotels in the Seven Dials area too (still Covent Garden) - some are very expensive unless you are on a company budget, but it's a good spot to be if you can get a late room deal.

If you are happy to be a bit further out several people I know have recommended Qbic Hotel, between Aldgate and Whitechapel (east of the theatre area).  App 3 miles from the theatre and 4 ish back to Euston in the morning.  My husband has stayed here a few times and loves it - it's classed as a budget hotel but it's fun and funky and more interesting than most so called budget places.  Book early and you can get a room for well under £100 which isn't easy.  It's cheaper than the Covent Garden Travelodge but just remember to factor in your transport costs - particularly if you are thinking of getting a cab after the theatre...

When you find a hotel you like the look of, do google reviews.  Although you might get some extreme reactions at either end of the scale, you'll probably notice some themes developing somewhere in the middle ground which should give you a pretty accurate guide as to what to expect.  It's also only one night - it doesn't have to be perfect!  Good luck with your decision making

Just another one to add to the list. Wherever possible when we're travelling we use Ibis hotels. They're always clean and usually have a restaurant on site. May not be quite as cheap as Travelodge and Premier Inn though. We use them abroad as well, they seem to be quite prolific across Europe.
