I need to find an ill health problem that occours ONLY in a red setter bitch for an animal health project, any help?

Hi Guest, I have kept Irish Setters for thirty years, dogs and bitches, and I know of no disease that only affects Irish Setter bitches. I don't know of another breed that is affected by Canine Leucocyte Adhesion Defficiency, but there could be!!! However it certainly affects dogs and bitches.

Possible the form of Night Blindness which affected them in the 40's and 50's but that has been largely been bred out these days.

Yes John, thanks to the DNA test that has been available since 1993 (I think) PRA is now unheard of in the Irish Setter population, there are still some tests being done but most Irish Setters today are hereditarily clear. Thank God, but I remember when test mating was still being done.
