Been asked by a friend at dog club to do a bath and trim for a show on her Toller. I have no idea what you do (she knows this!) but she says there's a good video on Youtube, which I'm about to go look for. From her description it sounds like thinning out behind the ears and making neat tidy feet. Apparently her breeder was quite vocal on the subject of the feet! Any Toller people on here I'd be grateful for any further pointers as I wouldn't want him looking too rubbish at the show! :-D

Yes trim the feet and tidy the hocks. There's a lot of variation in how much ear hair they have, so make them tidy but natural looking. The standard on ears says "Well feathered at back of fold, hair shorter at rounded tips." And don't trim anywhere else!
If you look on YouTube, be careful if it's an American video as they sometimes overtrim.

Great thanks! I've found a couple of videos and some info sheets, as you say they are American so I will leave it looking a bit more natural then they suggest. Goodness knows they drastically overtrim my own 'completely free from trimming' breed over there, so I can imagine what they get up to with a trimmed breed! :-D Thanks!

Some of the info suggests stripping out the ear feathering and some suggests thinning scissors, does that matter?

Some people pluck and some use thinning scissors, some use a bit of both, really depends on the dog and how hairy the ears are.

Great, it's good to have 2 options and know that if I should use thinners I won't horrify people by not having plucked! Thanks for that. :-)
