Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Big thanks to all on champdogs - puppy born not breathing

I would like to say a huge thanks to this forum, I have read many posts associated with whelping & this information in tandem with that from other sources aided me in saving the life of my bitch's final pup.
Had it not been for making use of info on resources such as champdogs I would not have known what to do.
The 5th and final pup was born bottom first.
She tried her best & had delivered the other 4 all by herself, removing sacks and taking care to sever the cords. When it came to this final pup she couldn't physically pass her due to her presentation/ orientation. I had to intervene and help stimulate her contractions as I timed 5 mins of being able to see the presentation of the pup. Had I waited any longer I fear I may have lost her, mum did not remove the sack from her face (I gave her only a min to do so due to her being stuck during the whelping process) when I removed it from her face she was not breathing. I held her almost upside down and rubbed her chest using a portion of the flannel I was holding her with, finally after about 8 mins one small breath! I carried on rubbing her and used my bulb aspirator to clear her mouth & she started crying and began breathing consistently. Within 15 mins she was suckling away; all 200 grams of her!
The point to all this is that even as a novice who has never bred any dogs of any sort before, it is essential to be as best informed as possible to make up for the deficiencies in practical experience. Had I not found champdogs and the other resources I utilised, I'm certain the last little girl would not have survived. So many thanks to all who contribute to this forum.
In particular I would also like to say a big thanks to those who replied to my posts on worming and  when to proceed to a c-section in an overdue maiden bitch. It was lovely to receive specific advice and support.

I would like to add that I totally agree also with those who do not advocate the accuracy of scanning and x-rays. Both scans and the single x-ray provided for 3 pups when in reality there were 5.

Many thanks again to all :)

Well done, been there done that, panic inducing minutes, and so pleased that champdogs forum has been  helpful, it is what the site forum is all about.

Our smallest pup was born last year weighing 75 grms and very flat. I gave him mouth to mouth and heart massage. He survived and we called him Tyson as he was such a fighter. He was the first one to escape from the whelping box and the first one to be chosen by his new family. He will never reach correct size but his personality is second to nine.....he is still called Tyson
