hi just after some advice please if anyone can offer it to me.
my bitch gave birth to a health littler almost 7 weeks ago,she stopped feeding the pups
a week and half ago threw the day and a week ago all together.
pups try to get on her when out playing and we remove them as soon as its seen.
she had a massive amount of milk today we have noticed a firm lump in her hind glands just at one side not
tender to touch it for mum,is this something we need to be worried about and seek a vets opinion or is this
common after whelping a litter of pups, and advice would be very helpful thanks in advace xx

I had a bitch with mastitis this late. Not in the hind glands, but in the front one up by the front legs. The pups had never fed from them as the nipples were completely flat and I couldn't get any milk out either.
Advice from the vet had been not to worry as the milk would dry up as they'd never been suckled.
NOT SO :-(
So we kept an eye on them and about 8-9 weeks she got mastitis. Pups had all left apart from our one. Antibiotics worked really well, but the one gland burst as the milk and pus had no other means of exit - horrendous to look at, but huge relief to the bitch. The vet was an older 'cow vet' and said it would heal fine, he was right of course. It healed really quickly. I never bred her again, as she was always going to have a problem with those nipples.
Get this checked now, and it should be quick to clear up :-)
