Mine, not the dogs!im just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar, and could give me some advice, please?
a few months ago i twisted my foot-on a hoof, you know, the ones you buy for dogs, filled with chicken-lethal! it really hurt and i went down. it was just starting to get better when i did it again-a stone this time. Two weeks later it was still so painful,i went to the docs to make sure it wasnt broken, it wasnt.

Shortly after that i started to limp even worse, sharp pain in hip/groin,after more than a few yards, but it came and went. Long dog walks were out of the question, and I dont drive, and live on my own,i still managed to get them out 2 or 3 times a day,but then, one day, after sitting down for a while,i got up and my foot was numb, took another step and it twisted over AGAIN!

i yowled a bit and the pain receded after a while and i seemed ok next day,but ever since i have to limp,my leg hurts, hip, knee, ankle and foot,i already have arthritis in my other knee.the hip/groin pain is particularly sharp, and ive had to turn back many times when attempting a decent dog walk.
I hesitate to go back to the doctors again, just to be told to take ibuprofen. My son suggested a physio as he thought my pelvis might be out of line.

my thoughts are that ive probably twisted my whole leg, ligaments, sinews, whatever, and hopefully itll get better in time. Any ideas, anyone?I want my legs and walks back! Sorry for the long post!

I was involved when a woman's leg snapped behing me and she grabbed me going down.

She'd also dislocated her femur the day she grabbed me.   I actually heard the sickening snap.

Taking her history before she passed out through pain,  she told me she'd had a fall 6 months earlier and had a lot of pain in her leg ,but GP told her it was neuralgia!

She'd been on painkillers and walking round on it for 6 months!   I was amazingly lucky to see the ambulance crew some hours later and get an update,  which is how I know.    (wouldn't happen today -  data protection)

I'm not saying your leg is broke.

But maybe you need to get checked out properly,  GPs aren't experts.    You may need a referral.

Even if it's not broken,  you may need correct strapping etc for damaged tendons etc,  which can take longer to heal than a break.

But if it's really bad,  A + E may be your best bet.

Oh dear you have been in the wars. I don't think you have twisted the whole leg, more that because it is painful walking and you are limping, you are putting other muscle groups under strain and this is giving you more pain. I think you need to take it really steady, no long walks, plenty of strong pain killers and probably a walking stick to take some of the pressure off. Hope you feel better soon.

thankyou, dill, maybe i ought to go  to a and e.What i cant understand is how now and then i can walk without too much pain.do you think theyll think im wasting their time if i go?I know how busy they are

thankyou roscoebabe.I did start off using a stick but its awkward with 3 dogs and i gave up as soon as i could.I have noticed limping on one leg makes the other hurt too!maybe back to the tylex(donated by son)!

Do you think you might have a trapped nerve somewhere as a result of the twist?

I was sent flying last boxing day when two of my dogs knocked into me during a mad wrestle. They hit the outside of my left knee and it buckled, I screamed so loudly it stopped a nearby football match! I hobbled for a few weeks but was fine after. That 5 minute  walk home might as well have been miles.

Then about a month ago, as I went to sit on the loo something twisted in the same knee and I fell back. I was told to take ibuprofen by the gp but went to see my osteopath when my back, abdomen, right elbow and fingers started to hurt. He said I had knocked my sacrum bone out of alignment back in december, when i had hit the ground and all other symptoms were a result of this.

Am much better now and not taking any pain killers. I think your son has the right idea...try getting a referral, you might make matters worse by over compensating on your other leg x

I have dodgy knees and have had problems with what feels like they are popping out of the joint slightly and get stuck. I can carefully put it back with a clunk but it is very painful. I wonder if this type of damage stretches the ligament as my joint always feels looser afterwards and it usually happens 2 or 3 more times before it heals.

Maybe get one of those ankle supports from the chemist until it's had time to recover.

Lunamoona,

I used to get that a lot - really painful, and can be difficult to walk too.   I was advised that it was from running upstairs all the time at work - 5 double flights and where I lived - 3 flights (no lift) !.  The muscles had developed for that, but the opposite muscles hadn't.

Treatment was to get a handbag, preferably heavy, and lift it with my foot repeatedly for several minutes a day.   Worked a treat and I've not had it happen since.

OH also suffered the same, he used to be a Painter/Decorator and spent huis life up and down ladders.   Same treatment, same cure ;-)

Anyone wanting to try this may want to get checked out first ;-)

Well I certainly didn't get it from running or going upstairs, I'm built for comfort not for speed ;) It used to happen the most when I was rolling over in bed. I don't get it at the moment I think due to weight gain, I find the more fat I have round my knees the more support my joint has hence why a suggested a support for the OP. The handbag tip might still work though so thanks for the tip :)

Lol

I'm another one built for comfort rather that speed.   My stair running days are long gone :-(

I used to have a 22 inch waist.   It's still there,  but I can't find it anymore :-D

Pam will your gp get you a referral  to a specialist  or have you got a minor injuries that you can get to with an xray ? I think by now you do need further investigations and sooner rather than later
Leaving it just puts stress elsewhere and getting better takes longer

bit the bullet and asked paul to make me an appointment with his physio, who he swears by,as a weight lifter he gets the odd problem and says this guy is great. If he can only just tell me whats wrong,I ll be happy. It may be that its arthritis,or something only painkillers will help, but at least I ll know. Thanks to everybody who answered, and once ive been to see this chappie,I ll let you know how Ive got on,thanks everyone x

hi,just thought id update as was good of you all to help me.I went to see Pauls osteopath (paul said physio and got corrected!)lovely chap, stood me in front of a mirror and stood behind me"youre wonky"he said!Turns out my pelvis was out of line making one of my legs half an inch shorter! On the couch, prodded and cracked(alarming but painless) Made me lift each knee in turn to the chest and then the side while keeping shoulders flat.Right hip very stiff, but after the prodding and cracking, did it again, and right hip now as easy as left!also, pelvis where it should be and legs same length!Ive got some exercises for 2 weeks starting tomorrow, and hopefully, thats me fixed!

But you know what upsets me?I couldve gone on for years feeling old before my time, just accepting it and taking painkillers-I wonder how many poor folk are doing just that, needlessly?
    thanks again,everyone!xx

Pleased you are feeling better. Just be careful from now on, we oldies don't bounce when we fall anymore lol!
- By furriefriends Date 08.11.14 14:52 UTC
Brilliant Pam I ma so pleased for you. Yes this why I don't like taking these sort of things to the doctor as painkillers isnt going to correct just mask. If its any consolation a lot of people including me have similar twisted pelvis ect and often don't know as it doesn't appear to bother you for years.
In fact for us ladies it is suggested that a visit to osteopath or chiropractor after childbirth is a good idea as this is often when the pelvis gets misaligned.
really pleased you are feeling better
- By Dill [gb] Date 08.11.14 23:48 UTC
So glad you're feeling better and it wasn't anything worse :-D    Always a worry after a fall.
- By colliepam Date 09.11.14 12:03 UTC
