My father lost his sheperd after 13yrs a year ago. He is now looking into getting a puppy. He came across a breeder who has 'king' sheperds. I just want to know if anyone has any knowledge of this type of sheperd, if anyone knows of any reason to steer clear of them.

I have just looked at some web sites of the king shepherd and it is a breed that is registered in america under the rare breed listings, the breed was made by crossing gsd american lines with malamutes or flock guarding breeds such as the pyrenean, so not to much different to the shiloh shepherd, its height measurments are males 27-32" and females 25-30" at the shoulder and the weight of the dogs are males 120-140 pounds and females 90-110 pounds in weight, the price that is charged for these dogs are, for a pet about $1200 and for a show standard one about $1500 hope this has helped you a bit to understand what a king shepherd is.

Do you get anyone in the UK breeding these 'King' Shepherds?
I know a couple of people who breed huge GSD's, but they don't have any Malamute in them!

To be perfectly honest I hope to God they don't start breeding them here in the UK.

I've saw one in the Dog Encyclopedia (Sp?)- if you ask me it's the exact same looking as my Sister in laws GSD- who isn't KC or bred to any sort of breed standard- hence why she looks different to my GSD.

I think they are beautiful dogs, and not any different to any of the purebred 'big longcoat' GSD's I have seen over here. As long as they do not have health or temperament problems I don't see why they are disliked.
Stacey, lots of these type of German Shepherds in the UK are K.C registered! They are still accepted as being GSD, even if they don't meet the Breed Standard. Gawd don't get me started on that subject ( grin ) !!
