I put my dog to stud yesterday and 2 days before that but this morning my girl while up in the feilds ran in to another dog full force and she needs a tooth taken out because its loose, she goes in tommorrow to get it done will this effect pregnancy if there even is one, insure when embryos implant,so worried.
My girl had to have a GA at 3 weeks pregnant, she had a very aggressive hot spot on her face and we needed to knock her out to shave and treat it as trying to do it while she was awake was causing too much stress. She was out the minimum of time and I am now rushing round after 5 babies !! the result of that litter .. The vet will know best and as long as they are aware of her possible pregnancy will be careful try to be with her as long as possible before the GA and if possible as she recovers to reduce stress. Good luck Aileen
My best advice is to discuss this with your vet before he treats her - it may well be possible to whip this tooth out under a mild sedation rather than a full anaesthetic?
I spoke to my vet and she said because embryos havent implanted( if she has taken) there is no risk,i just wanted to here from other breeders because im naturally worried but she defiately needs an anesthetic x
I had a bitch that needed an op 3 days after being mated. the vet said that the pregnancy wouldnt take because of the anaesthetic. :( I had thought that the risks were small because the embryos had not implanted but the vet was absolutely sure.
My girl subsequently gave birth to 6 huge babies on her due date :)
Everything I have ever read says that until implantation few external things affect the embryos.
The risky weeks are the middle ones.
Having twice travelled abroad by plane and having to dose the bitch with chemicals, flying (so changes in pressure) and no harm to litters, I'd agree that it should do no harm.
Sedation is more dangerous than a GA due to the drugs used. I know now because I too was very worried and my vet and I made sure we knew all the info beforehand. The biggest problem with a GA is the oxygen perfusion while under a GA and this needs to be monitored carefully. Aileen
Its the gas used to keep them under that can cause problems, if possible to just induce anaesthesia with the initial injectable drug and get the tooth out as quick as possible without using the gas, then you have the best chance. How ever it can be used with caution
Looking at the differing advice here, I think you should take your advice from YOUR VET. Provided he can be trusted. I still think it should be possible to whip this loose tooth out without the need of a general anaesthetic!! FWIW.
