I know there are several cat lovers on this forum so wondered if you could advise me.

My son has a 15 yr old cat, since we moved 2 years ago she has become a house cat although she was never one for going out much before we moved. He noticed that she appears to have pulled out one of her claws, she is walking alright on it, it doesn't seem to be bothering her. I have examined it as best I can, it looks clean, there is no smell. Is there anything I can do to assist with the healing, I have used Dorwest Garlic tablets and a bit of Manuka honey in her food. Obviously if I thought she need the vet I would take her but at the moment I don't think she does.

This may seem like a daft observation but do you think this is due to boredom ?

Its more likely because her claws are too long and it's got caught in something.   Are her claws clipped regularly?   If they aren't they can get far too long, even if she uses a scratching post.

As cats get older they also use the scratch post less enthusiastically and less often, and this can also mean they need their claws cutting on a more regular basis.

It's usually easy to see where to clip a cat's claws, either they are transparent, so you can see to avoid the pink 'quick', or darker ones, you just cut off the sharp thinner bit on the end and leave the thicker part.   If in any doubt ask a vet to show you. ;-)

If she doesn't have a scratch post, they can be bought or made cheaply enough.   

We made ours from a carpet tube inner cut to size (beg one from a carpet shop). And covered with carpet off cuts.   2 squares of 3ply wood with a block  on top and also covered with carpet made the top and bottoms.    Gave many years of sterling use :-)

Doubt it is boredom. Best way to get it to heal would be to dip the paw in warm salt water a couple of times a day -if she will let you. :) I had a pup pull out a dewclaw a few months ago and this is what the vet adviced.

Thanks, I'll get her a scratching post, I feel daft I hadn't thought of that ! She did have one before but we didn't bring it with us. Will have a look at trimming them, they are clear.

I would second the scratching post idea.

We had a similar problem, and that seemed to do the trick
