Topic Dog Boards / Health / Simple season question

The WFT has just come into season at 7 months.  I was surprised as my sheltie was 9 months and I was still thinking of the WFT as a baby!

Last weekend when I was staying at my daughter's in London with the WFT I noticed that she was nibbling her "privates" quite a bit and her poo was a bit loose,   she seemed to have a bit of an upset tummy which I put down to the ghastly 3 hour drive  to Wimbledon.  At home later though we had a couple of wees on the kitchen floor which I thought looked a bit pink but on checking her I didn't see any signs of a season.  However yesterday I noticed tell tale signs of drops of blood on the floor and on checking her could see that she had plainly started her first season!

Question (for future reference):  Do I take the day I first saw the blood as the first day of her season (ie yesterday)?  Only asking as I may want to breed a litter from her eventually and will need to know about timings etc.

Thanks all!

I alwa6ys count day one from the first pink staining on a tissue as I check my girls daily, especially with a potential run up (month or so) to a season..

I always count it from the first hint of pink on a tissue, like Brainless I check mine (every few days probably) when they are coming up due.

I keep a diary of my girl's seasons--I note down her behaviour, how she is eating, colour/amount of discharge, etc, as well as the reaction of my 3 boys to her, right the way through till everyone calms down again :-).

I mated her at the beginning of September on her 4th season, and had bloods done to check progesterone levels twice. If I hadn't kept the diary, the tests alone might not have helped me in time, because they confirmed she ovulates very early in her cycle.

Her scan this week shows a good litter on its way, and I can't recommend strongly enough the value of keeping a clear, detailed record (even though my family think I am insane).

Your not insane Jay15. I keep a record...although not quite in as much detail as you. I feel it helps in the future, for things like to see if a daughter keeps a pattern like her mum or even just the first seasons to give a basic idea.
