Hi, I am waiting for my bitch to come into season and as it's my first time breeding am trying to get my head around everything.  I have been asked by the stud dog owner to get an infection swab done as soon as season starts.  I have spoken to idexx who said they don't do these kits (I am sure I read on here that they used to?).  Does anyone know what or who I need to contact regarding this?  Thanks

Odd.  Although times move on so this may be normal these days.   In the past, some owners of stud dogs would ask for the bitch to be put on a broad spectrum antibiotic.    Does you vet have an opinion on this??

People with popular stud dogs usually know how to take the necessary precautions so their dogs don't pick up anythig from visiting bitches - in Canada/States, quite often a popular stud dog wouldn't actually do a mating..... it was all done by AI!

I had one done as the owner of the male I used in Belgium requested it. It was done at the vets as it needs a high vaginal swab and sent of. Results back in 24 hrs. Maybe it is not possible to get a kit and a visit to the vet is needed.
Just the stud dog owner being careful with his boy no doubt. I cannot say I blame him really.
I would not be happy to put a bitch onto ABX just in case, better not to fill her with drugs unnecessarily.

Totally agree and when I asked my then vet on one such occasion, she looked at me as if I was totally mad... "what exactly are we treating her FOR".   Absolutely!!   And in truth, I didn't conform!!!
