Has anyone been watching this? I had no idea that she was such a self centred person. She treated Bobby terribly.

I watched it -mainly because I was curious about seeing more of Sheridan Smith (doesn't she sing well!), having heard of her ever since she was a local kid when she and a friend's daughter, also called Sheridan Smith, went to the same dance classes. I kept hearing about "the other Sheridan Smith". Anyway I think the fact that how badly Cilla treated Bobby was included and not glossed over hopefully means there is remorse there -and of course they did stay married for the rest of his life.

I watched it too; although it's not the sort of thing I'd normally choose (I'm not a Cilla fan) I thought it very well done and Sheridan Smith did an excellent job, and it went quite a way at capturing the spirit of the times.

Like others, I'm not a fan of Cilla's, but enjoyed the series immensely. I suppose because it was set in 'my era', I found it more interesting as I remember so much from those days. I thought the first two parts better then the final part which seemed rather rushed as if it was trying to put to much in. I was taken aback at how badly Cilla treated Bobby, but probably not surprising really as a lot of pop and film stars change when fame and fortune finds them. Thought Sheridan Smith was very good and has a brilliant voice.

I watched it too, purely to see Seridan Smith and what she'd do with it. Never could stand Cilla.
Have to say, I thought Sheridan's voice and delivery was better than Cilla's ! Well done that young lady!
I'd read that Cilla had been sent the DVD of it, but wouldn't watch it, so was intrigued about that - perhaps it was because she knew how she was going to come accross - unbelievably selfish!
Bobby must hav been besotted with her, to give up any idea of a carreer of his own.

Didn't watch it, but watched Sheridan Smith in Who Do You Think You Are which is always very interesting and often a good portrayal of the celebrity's real character :) She came over well in that - I'd never heard of her before :) WDYTYA is still available on iPlayer if anyone is interested :)
I don't remember much about Cilla when I was growing up, just that she's a tv legend, and the lady on Blind Date. I do remember it being front page news when Bobby died, and all the photos of her looking very upset. So, was intrigued to learn more about her road to stardom. I really enjoyed the 3 episodes in particular, the songs as I hadn't heard any of them before!!
On Sheridan Smith's twitter page she posted a photo of a bouquet of flowers that were sent to her by Cilla :)
>in particular, the songs as I hadn't heard any of them before!!
That makes me feel really, really old!
I really enjoyed this series.
Sheridan is a great actress, I first saw her in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps many moons ago.
I thought the guy that played Bobby was great and I was surprised to find that he is Welsh, his Scouse accent was good.
My dad was a young man in Bootle at that time and often saw the Beatles at the Cavern and on the Liverpool circuit. He remembers Cilla taking the coats at the Cavern.
But what most surprised me was to find that my local butcher, when I was a child, was depicted in it. He was the lead singer in Kingsize Taylor and The Dominoes !!!
Didn't watch it, but watched Sheridan Smith in Who Do You Think You Are which is always very interesting and often a good portrayal of the celebrity's real character :-)I watched that too, again because of the local connection. Thought it was very good! The pub her parents sing in is in the same village I go to dog training in. :)

Please don't let it. :-)
I sang along AND knew all the words. :-)
I agree with your points Jodi - watched the final episode last night and would have liked to have seen how her relationship with Bobby flourished, and how getting married and having a famly affected her career etc.
Good series though, something a little different and good to sing along to those famous songs
