I am just about to register my litter of puppies and the KC is closed so can't ring and ask.

I am required to provide a name with no more than 24 letters: Question - does this include the amount of letters in a affix or can the name be 24 letters long plus the affix?

Edited to say, I have found the answer by going over by one letter.......blast!

No it includes the affix but not spaces between words. 

This is why long affixes are not a good idea as they eat into your letter allowance.

The affix I wanted was very similar in sound to another breeder - different breed. Shame, as it was two letters shorter. We live and learn LOL.

It is just the one puppy name that is a letter too long - the others are fine. I have found away around now. Thanks. She is a 'keeper' so wanted a special name - not that the others arn't special!

Does this limit include when you go to add on your prefix as a suffix on a purchased dog? We've just got our prefix and now thinking of it, it will be over on character limit if we want to change it :(

Room for negotiation under those circumstances.

24 characters for original registered name then as much as needed for adding a suffix. I know of dogs with names of over 40 characters!

There is no limit when adding on an affix onto an existing name.

And it can be hell on earth when you are writing out trophy cards :-)

Just had an email from the KC, two of my names have been rejected.

An alternate name I have is 24 letters long, plus an apostrophe. Does the apostrophe count as a letter, or can it be ignored. I have got to phone them tomorrow with the two alternatives and want to sort it out in my head tonight.
