Hi

My WFT this morning has produced green stools,  not exactly bright green but green all the same.  I have looked back through past posts and see that this is not all that uncommon and seemed to be put down to rice not being cooked enough perhaps.  However she (who is now 7 months) has been fed on Naturediet since a pup and I recently changed her from the puppy/junior to the ordinary one.  She has been eating the lamb and vegetables one - do you think this has caused the green poo and should I put her back on puppy/junior for the time being or maybe the more bland chicken one?  She is perfectly well and the poo was good and firm.  All my dogs eat Naturediet and do well on it and I have boxes of it.  I have never seen green poo before!!

Thanks

Snowflake

has she had any coloured chews recently?

Any chance she has been eating any rabbit/sheep/deer poo......this always gives mine firm but green poo.

Any chance she's attacked and killed a houseplant? One of mine stayed at my sister's house while we were at a funeral and demolished (thankfully) a non toxic pot plant. She produced firm green poos for 2 days. She has red poo when she gets chews on training nights and bright yellow squits when she got into the fridge and pinched the butter!

Hmm -I did give her a chew from one of those packets of munchy coloured packs and it could have been green .......

The green and red ones always colour the poo, the brown and yellow ones less so.

Same happened to me.  (Well not me personally.)  :-)

I was gobsmacked at multicolored poo.  I happened to mention to my vet (who told me not to feed such rubbish.)  :-(

It's the purplish poo with stones in that always startles me when they've been scavenging the windfall plums! :-p

Then I'd suspect this is what's causing this - if it doesn't improve, obviously look further - I'd avoid those coloured chews - they have no nutritional value, and in fact can be bad for dogs.    If she wants something to chew, try a raw carrot (which will go through undigested for the most part, so be warned) or a Nylabone to strop on.

I've given my dogs Husse green tea bones a few times and they tend to turn their poo a concerning shade of green!

Some would say (non dog peeps) that it is quite worrying  that we are so concerned with the state (and colour) of our pooches' stools!!!!  (However I always feel that they are a good indicator of their health don't you?)

Shan't be feeding those coloured chews again though - and thanks all for your comments!

So very true.  :-)

Quite a few years ago when I hadn't bred for a while, I mentioned to my vet that I intended having a litter in the next few months.  Once pups were on the ground he asked how they were doing.  I said how fantastic their poos were.  He mentioned that he had never seen any one except dog peeps get so excited over dog poo.

That's because we love them like we do our own children.
