For some weeks Otto has a lump of hard scabby material on the inside of his right inner digital pad.
Due to growth plate deformities he has appalling Queen Ann legs that wrap around his chest with feet at 45%, he walks across his toes, causing them to be tightly bunched & scuffing to his nails. The hard area has rubbed against his metacarpal pad, thought initially he'd nicked it somehow but today it has been diagnosed as a corn. I've been rubbing it with baby oil to soften, has anyone experienced this & how did you treat? Any ideas welcome?

No idea with a dog. What did the vet who diagnosed it recommend?

My own catch all for skin issues is Coconut Oil, but I don't know how you would help a corn with this because I imagine the issue is getting the central core of the corn out. If constant rubbing in the same place is causing it, he may need some protection against this. Perhaps a piece of foam with the centre cut out and vetwrapped in position? I'm thinking of relieving the pressure as corn pads for humans do.   Sorry, thinking aloud really, I haven't experienced it in dogs.

A friend has a greyhound with a corn, she uses a boot for him.  I've been trying to think who makes it but I can't!  I'll have a google and see if I can find it.  He doesn't have to wear it all the time, just when it hurts which is when he walks on pathways/concrete.  Doesn't always hurt then either, just sometimes.

ETA that was easy lol!  It's a Thera-paw boot :)

Vet suggested either softening it or keeping short by cutting/filing. Chosen to keep it soft by rubbing zinc & caster oil into it daily, & by doing this I've managed to remove all but the core, time consuming but he's happier.
Sadly can't use boots (I've tried them previously) as with his deformities he scrapes his front nails as he walks & he just trips over them!
