Can you register:-
1/2 brother to 1/2 sister
Uncle to niece, aunt to nephew
grand parent to grand child
Cousin to cousin
matings?
and is there a limit to how many times you can repeat or combine these matings if allowed? for example if you can do  uncle to niece can you then mate that puppy to a grandparent, uncle/aunt or cousin?

thankyou. it does say you cant breed brother to sister but doesnt mention 1/2 brother to 1/2 sister so would that be allowed? seems a bit odd if it was.
And do they stick religiously to what is written or do they asses each mating on its merits?

They don't stick to it religiously. Registered brother/sister offspring exist.

These are most probably prior to the ruling coming in, which if my memory is correct, was the same time as other rulings of Jan 2012??

Half brother/sister matings are allowed. Personally I think that the other lines to this kind of mating need to be unrelated for at least 2 generations..or more.

It's only full brother to sister that isn't allowed (as well as mother to son and father to daughter), and if any such matings are to be allowed these days you must get permission from the KC, "in exceptional circumstances", you cannot just register such a litter as normal.

Yes.   I've done uncle to niece and aunt to nephew (because having bred out before then, I wanted to see what I got) and had no problems with the KC allowing me to register the puppies.   They will allow half brother to half sister, but when I enquired once, told me they prefer a novice breeder to take the advice of a peer re the individuals involved.   Whether people do, I have no idea!!  Provided the other half of each partner is unrelated, I see no problem doing half brother to half sister - line breeding, which most breeders will do, to fix type.   The secret with close(er) mating is to know when to 'go out' for a mating.   It's a hard thing to do if the forumla is working but people who breed in and in, usually end up in trouble eventually whether it be from a fault or two, or vigour, longevity, size and so on.   Nature will have it's way!!

Half siblings have only half the inbreeding level that full siblings would have so not same at all.

The only unacceptable mattings to the KC are parent to offspring and full siblings.

My youngest champion bitch is half brother sister mating.  At the time her mother had had three healthy litters and was a healthy 9 year old the sires of the two half siblings were imports from different continents, so I felt justified in doing the mating, which gave me a COI of 13.7%,  The pedigree data used to calculate this result extended back as far as 16 generations with the first 5 generations being fully complete.

I'd expect there would be as the The rule only came into force in January 2009.

Well the one I know is only a year old. Think permission is sought as has been mentioned. But I wouldn't know for sure, just know that they do exist.

I've only ever known full sibling or parent to offspring mattings being accidental, with puppies left with permanent endorsements in my breed.

People just didn't deliberately carry out such matings in my breed, didn't need a rule to say it was unwise.

Of course. This was accidental, only the one the breeder kept was registered, unfortunately one of the other pups has already had a litter. Registration and endorsements sadly wouldn't have prevented it anyway. But think I've gone a bit off topic now!
