Do you use it in schools or is is it just a local dialect used when you are in just the company of other people from the area ?

Interested that the promotion of using more national dialects haven't been part of the manifesto of the YES vote or have I missed that ?

My gt.grandfather and his family spoke Gaelic - until they were thrown off Mull during the clearances and had to speak English in Glasgow :)

Alex Salmond doesn't speak Gaelic nor do most of his ministers :)

What I would like to know is what we (without Scotland) will be called ??

'We' will be called ENGLAND.    And Welsh, and N.Irish.   Tragic innit.   I was amazed, driving 35+ miles out of where I live yesterday, at the number of UNION flags being flown on private property (along with a smattering of Cornish flags!).   Strong feelings obviously, and quite understandably, south of the border about all this.  So much sense written here too.    What happens to people when they become Members of Parliament!!?

good luck to you all.

"Me thinks you'll need it!!I never thought the cannie and capable Scottish population would go for this step into the unknown and hope in the end they do not, as I said before I am worried for them. "

The problem is, most SCOTTISH people are indeed cannie and capable.   What isn't so certain is all those who will be able to vote who are not Scottish-born but will even now, affect this decision.   And if it all goes pear-shaped, those people can, presumably, leave the country for their original home!!!    This is what really bothers me about the Vote.

I must admit, this bothers me too.
Not so much English residents, as I would imagine, they'd be more inclined to have put down roots here, but I do object to people who have possibly only come here for a few years to work, to be able to influence the outcome.

Vote cast, now the wait begins. Great final speeches from the two S's last night.

Mine too.
Voted Yes, but I think the No's will get it by a margin.

The Scotsman is offering up to date news and they have assigned a Scottie to the Yes vote and a Westie to the No's. Always been bias to a black dog! (Yes I do know they also come in a  sandy colour)

This is our moment I hope and pray that we grasp the nettle.

Brigadoon or the real world?

> Brigadoon or the real world? .

LOL :) I read somewhere that if there is a 'Yes' vote, Shetland may 'opt out' of Scotland and become self-governing like the Isle of Man - taking it's 'share' of the oil with it.
