So sad, this weekend I lost two 11 day old puppies. The little boy went within 4 hours but the little girl fought longer but in the end just too young to survive. Lots of tears in my house, it's so heartbreaking. I didn't realise it would effect me so hard just being 11 days old but it really has. The others are all doing really well but just paranoid now all the time, I'm expecting some if not all of the others to be affected.
I've had 35 puppies over the years and this is the first time we've ever lost any, I suppose we've just been really lucky. Fingers crossed for the rest of the litter. I keep checking to see if they're twitching and acting normally, I've never wanted this stage to go so quickly before so they are older and stronger if they do get ill.

I'm so sorry for you - never lost one of this age although I have had a couple, different litters we had to pts pretty much immediately after birth and one we had to make this decision by around 18 weeks - annoxia at birth left her with real problems which having run her on, weren't getting any better.

Have you found out why these puppies didn't make it because if it were me, I'd need to know re the other puppies and whether they are at risk (rather than sit and watch every twitch?)

so sorry about the loss of two of your pups, its hard at any stage to loose puppys,we have been fortunate not to loose any with one litter of eight,my bitch is in labour with this her first litter, not been a good pregnancy for her at all,we are just hoping and prayer her and the puppys pull threw everything xx

So sorry to hear this.  I can accept losing a puppy at birth - but to lose them after even a couple of days is heartbreaking.  At 11 days they are moving around and possibly have eyes open so really beginning to develop.  Did you have pm's done to establish a cause of them passing?
Hope other pups continue to thrive xxx

Thanks for your sympathy, feel really sad:((( I took the second pup to the vets and she thought it was canine herpesvirus so not a lot to do, she gave her some antibiotic drops for any infection but won't work on the virus, it's just supportive care.
We wanted to give her every chance so took the antibiotics and was syringe feeding but I should've had her pts at the vets in hindsight. Very painful lesson learnt.
The rest of the litter are all doing great but it could happen again to another pup or even the whole litter. That's the nature of this, they all thrive and then it hits.
The babies have all got their eyes open now and are stumbling about trying to balance and walk, proper little puppies, it's going to be worse if anymore go now. I've never wanted week 3/4 etc to get here!!
We buried the little ones last night together and planted some pansies.
