Hello everyone after a very long absence. Our beloved corgi died this year aged 12. We have been very lucky to be offered a lovely corgi puppy by an amazing breeder and are looking forward to his arrival. I have an 8 year old animal loving daughter who was raised by my previous corgi so she is very keen to help raise this one and read everything as she goes along. I have lent all my old puppy books to friends and am now wondering what the best book is these days? Is it still The Perfect Puppy?
Thanks for any recommendations. It is nice to be back in the world of dog.
Congratulations on your new puppy and how lovely to have a daughter so keen to help with rearing and training!
I recently bought Gwen Bailey's 'Perfect Puppy' for a friend. It's been revised and updated since the first edition and I think it is still excellent - and very 'readable'.
I also love 'The Puppy Primer' by Patricia McConnell & Brenda Scidmore - also well written and readable.
A newer good one is 'The Happy Puppy Handbook' by Pippa Mattinson.
If I only wanted one book and it was mainly for a child I think I would go for the Perfect Puppy as it is so comprehensive.
Agree with Blay's recommendations and would also add.
Life Skills for Puppies by Helen Zulch and Daniel Mills. Laying the foundation for a loving, lasting relationship. This is a very easy read, but packed with great ideas .
Puppy Problems ?, No Problem ! By Brenda Aloff This is a book and DVD.
Before and After you get your Puppy by Ian Dunbar (can be bought on Amazon etc, but also available as a free download) along with the website http://www.dogstardaily.com/
