I am considering collecting and storing semen from one of my dogs, as I can see it being of use in the future (i.e. after his death), and the dog is now 8 years old. I live on the borders of Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire and know that you used to be able to use Tweed House vets in Leeds for this, but they apparently no longer do it. Can anyone recommend a vet not too many hours drive away?

fit and fertile do it but Preston might be too far for you. But if you take him to shows then you could call in when going to blackpool.

One of the repro specialists says anyone considering storing semen should do so then the dog is young.

Even if motility is good the semen of older dogs is often for once defrosted.

8 is young for a Malinois and he sired a litter this year, so that wouldn't worry me a lot. :) Others in breed have sired litters at 12 and 13.

It is in our breed, often males don't get considered until 5+ unless their owners happen to have bitches, or they are imports.

My friend had semen frozen from her boy at 8 and he was siring litters fine, but unfortunately on defrosting the quality was poor, and the thawing etc was done in USA where they have plenty of AI expertise.
