Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Would this put you off?

I am on the waiting list for a pup which will hopefully be born in September. I really like both sire and dam, the bitch was bred by the breeder but was sold to a pet home, this pet home is breeding under the breeders kennel name with her mentoring (and visiting pups several times a week when they are born) breeder owns the sire.

I think the breeder is fantastic, she is so knowledgable about the breed and training etc, but the thing giving me doubt is the bitches 'owner'. I am friends with her on Facebook and how she comes across, things she shares etc really I do not like. I believe that if this litter was not being done under the breeders name/supervision, she would never have lifted endorsements.

I'm not sure whether I should let it put me off?  My concerns mainly are the upbringing of the pups- they are going to be working dogs so their upbringing is crucial IMO.

Opinions please!

Tricky! Would go with it and try to get pup away as soon as possible (which most working homes would want to do anyway). Does the pet owner live near you so you can arrange to go round and try to impart some pearls of wisdom but tactfully?

I take it you are also talking about her personal life as well as her 'dog' life

Look at it this way, if you were not her friend on facebook, you would know no different, just knowing the pups come from good lines with a good foundation breeder, and hopefully the pups are being brought up well under her guidance, which I hope you will see to put your mind at rest. :-)

Facebook unfortunately, allows many of us to see people in a different light........ I too am shocked at the hidden face of some people I never normally see....... some people completely shock me with their crassness on FB but in 'real' life, they are always lovely and people I would trust.......... truth is, none of us really know each other, people act differently face to face.

I would just go with the person you meet with the pup, and accept that we do have many faces, as long as the one you meet is ok and is rearing the pup well, I wouldn't let it bother me. :-)

Although I probably wouldn't count her as a friend.

Presumably the breeder must trust this person or she would never have sold her the bitch in the first place?
