Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / GSD colour/coat genetics?

Just a curious question, as I'm looking for a GSD...

What colours (Bicolour black/tan, solid black, sable, white, liver/blue and tan, etc), are dominant to what other colours? And what coat type ('short', medium or long) is dominant in the GSD breed?

depends Black and tan are more dominant if the mum and dad are Black and Tan.
vice verser.
I have a long coat shepard but all his litter mates were short coats as was his mum and dad.

Go for long haired Black and Tan u can't get a more handsom lookin dog

Not as keen on the longcoats, actually - they're not as close to the standard as I want.

Actually, I've found a breeder now, and will be getting a lovely bicolour black and gold pup middle of April.
